unfortunately I'm basing it on PFF grades because I don't watch Tampa Bay often. Yes I understand PFF isn't be all end all. He has been far from dominant outside of 2019 from those numbers. @JoeyFlex5

ive been keeping track of jensen a pretty decent amount on film - one of the non-ravens players ive watched the most film on - he's been exceptional

2020 he was unbelievable

this year has been a real eye opener for me in terms of grading and who's grading guys in what ways

ESPN's win-rates vs PFF grades vs other grading systems - it just looks like there's a lot of people doing grading who don't really understand what's going on

PFF Oline grades put too much emphasis on run blocking. It's certainly not something to ignore, but if you have a highly graded run blocker who's also a poorly graded pass rusher, they'll at least make the guy look average or maybe even above average. Realistically, no team in the league is going to repeatedly put somebody out there who is terrible in pass protection unless they have no other alternatives. Most of your high leverage, important, crucial plays in a game are pass plays. 3rd downs, mostly, are pass plays. That's where people make their money.

That being said, if you look at how Ken at FilmStudy evaluates Powers...
Miami - B+
Cincinnati - C
LAC - C+
Indy - C
Denver - C (split reps with Cleveland, graded higher than Cleveland)
Detroit - A (split reps with Cleveland, graded higher than Cleveland)
KC - C (split reps with Cleveland, was outplayed by Cleveland)

Can't seem to find the Minnesota game for some reason, but I'll keep looking.

Has the look of a consistently average player pretty much, though Miami looks to be one of his better games.

maybe it's sacrilege but ive not been agreeing with ken's grades a ton this year...
noticed it mostly when i went back to the LAC game and having his grades (and even some plays) not align with what i was seeing... like i understand how he grades and he in many ways takes assignments out of it somewhat by grading guys on what they do and not necessarily what they're supposed to do (unless there's an obvious bust somewhere)

also while you're looking for the vikings game, can you see if you can find the LV game too because i wanted to see his grades for that a few weeks back and couldnt find anything at all

I definitely agree that PFF is fundamentally flawed with how they grade OL and DL if you ask me. Outside of the eye test how do you grade Jensen. I know you say he is top 3 but you aren't watching all of TB's games either. I'm not saying you are right or wrong. Tampa Bay has a very good offensive line as a whole and having Ali Marpet next to you cerrtainly doesn't hurt, just like it didn't hurt having Yanda next to him when he was a Raven. I'm not taking anything away from Jensen as I also feel he is a good player.

i mean marpet's good
but it works both ways - ive seen multiple reps where marpet's maybe got his guy controlled but might also be about to lose the rep but jensen's uncovered and comes in and ends it and puts the guy on the floor

jensen's tape is littered with defenders of all shapes, sizes and abilities on the ground

probably got the strongest grip and upper body strength at the position so that when he gets hands on it's over no matter who you are - the kind of power and anchor that he can set on the biggest most powerful and disruptive noses in the league and erase them

idk why that's not showing up in his grades... he's given up a few more pressures this year in the first few games than in previous years but the last 6 weeks or so that whole OL has been outrageously effective - Brady's had a ridiculously clean pocket the last few weeks

he should have been all-pro last year - erik mccoy and rodney hudson have been pretty amazing this year (and corey linsley too) so maybe not all-pro this year

but those 4 guys are the clear elite 4 in the NFL this year

That was one of the reasons why I think we're hesitant to sign him to a long-term deal. Also, weren't we cap-strapped that year?

cant remember the cap situation but yeah we were super quiet that year in terms of free agent signings so probably - think we re-signed hurst on a cheap deal, brought in RGIII, crabtree and john brown on fairly cheap deals too

and i think that was basically it...

I never saw Raiders grades either. Pretty sure he just didn't do them that week.

I would imagine opinions can differ. Not too many people who publicly do Oline grades, so I can't sit here and knock the guy repeatedly for what he puts out. From what I've seen suggests he's been an average Guard so far, and that's what his grading shows. But I do tend to take Oline play in a bit more of a vacuum than most, looking at the whole line rather than individual players.

that time of anchor would be nice to have in Baltimore. Appreciate the feedback.

I'd like some feedback on your opinions on the more important part of the offensive line when it relates to Lamar Jackson. I've had conversations with others regarding this as well and knowing this year we have been down two tackles, three at times. I think the interior is more important, atleast for Lamar. That's just what I am seeing, what are your thoughts?

Maybe sold. I'm also just not sold on the idea that our Center next year will be somebody we drafted in the Spring. If they let Bozeman walk, I think they'll try to find a cheaper veteran. Maybe they draft somebody in the middle rounds, but I certainly don't think they're going to put all their eggs in the "starting Center is in the draft" bucket.

I get what you're saying but some of the best centers in the league are players drafted recently that we passed on. Creed Humphrey is one I really wanted this year but he got drafted by KC and is doing extremely well. Looking at this year's draft, I really would like to draft Tyler Linderbaum (Iowa), Alec Lindstrom (Boston College), or Ricky Stromberg from Arkansas. Now if we can keep Bozeman, I would hope we can get an in season extension done before the offseason. Passing on some of these young interior OL in recent drafts have been our downfall, we can't keep relying on taking guys who are versatile, can play two positions and keep moving them around. We need to find someone we can stick at both guard spots and center and leave them there. I think Mekari will be our RT next year, he's earned it. Hopefully we can lock him in to a short term deal too. We need consistency on the OL.

It’s hard to say for certain - I think what he needs is some consistency in front of him - we definitely need at least one tackle he can trust because that allows him some confidence to be able to escape pressures when they do come

You’re right though that the interior would seem important because of how much he likes to step up explosively in the pocket

I think it’s notable that the floodgates have been open at tackle on both sides in all 3 of our losses this year

Linderbaum, stromberg? Lindstroms name is a combination of the other too. With a name like that Hes definitely gonna be the best center to ever live.

Def interior.. both bills and titans killed our interior oline in both playoff loses.

The entire line needs to be addressed.

We need insurance at both tackle spots, we can't rely on Stanley and Villanueva is looking his age. Mekari who is on his final year played well but he got a lot of help, we need tackles who can play on an island.

Bozeman is likely leaving. Zeitler will be 32 and LG is still a question mark.

Matthew Judon's compensatory pick based on average salary would be a 4th round comp, but is it possible it could turn into a 3rd round comp based on how he is currently playing?

yeah the comp level can be impacted upwards if a player plays more snaps on their new team - judon's already played more snaps on defence (and special teams too) through 11 games than he did the entirety of the 2020 season
