The Random Thought Thread

After a tough day yesterday I am pleased to inform you all that the mighty Aussies have retained The Ashes. For the unaware it's essentially the cricket version of the civil war.

Bit annoyed that the Sydney test is a dead rubber but we classless Aussies don't mind kicking a pom when he is down, plus it's in a private suite so probably won't watch much cricket anyway.

Happy New Year!

utterly brutal dismantling - complete embarrassment

If I cared about cricket more I’d be fuming

Dont cricket matches take days to play? That shit would drive me bonkers.

Related, I used to work on cruise ships long ago. We'd do repositioning cruises where we'd have days with no passengers. It was heaven. We'd stay up all night drinking and playing poker and using the halls for waterslides, avoiding security. Anyway, I stumbled up onto the pool deck one morning and a bunch of Indian guys, some of whom I knew, were playing cricket.....with a tennis ball. They asked me if I'd like to try it and I smashed that ball like I was Babe Ruth...... right off the side of the ship. They were not pleased as they only had brought one ball up on deck.

Ok, carry on.

can take up to 5 full days to finish (and sometimes still not finish so ends in a draw lol)

and the ashes is a best of 5 test matches too lol

England were so crap though that they couldn’t even make it through 3 days in the most recent game

what did you typically due on the ship. I have a lot of respect for cruise ship workers.

My wife and I have been on 16 cruises over the last 21 years. We love to travel both land and sea trips and see the world in different ways. Some of my favorite trips include the Baltic, which included a couple days in Russia, Israel, Two weeks in the UK Ireland and Scottland. We also took an Ireland Iceland trip on a separate occasion. We have gone to Alaska on two separate occasions. I'd recommend going on Land and Sea with atleast two days in Denali. Venice and the Greek Isles along with Warsaw, Krakow, Budapest, Vienna and Prague on a land trip were fabulous.

I’ve seen some mocks giving us Kaiir and his last name gives me PTSD

Yeah, the wife and I met on the ships and are avid world travelers. I wish everyone, everywhere could travel outside their own area. It would really cure a lot of this worlds woes as far as racism, etc. We are a great country but theres so much to learn from other cultures.

I had it easy on the ships. I was a Broadcast Manager, meaning I was in charge of keeping the satellite dishes working, the movie channels running, using my team to film all the events for the video you buy at the end of the cruise, etc. Anything TV or video related. I could get off in pretty much every port so it was more of a paid party for me. I didnt work nearly as hard as the waiters or housecleaners or ANYONE below deck. Those people work incredibly hard and when I'd see guests being whiney little bitches, it was always a reminder why it took me several weeks on any ship to convince most folks that I wasnt a "typical" American in their eyes. You have all these great people from a giant tapestry of countries being treated like shit by some Karen from Wisconson. Really sad. I have so many friends around the world now and an only semi-crazy South African wife, so it was a worthy experience.

I remember the Curry Cup (South Africas Rugby Superbowl) ended in a tie one year and I walked around the house yelling "LAAAAAMMMMMMEEEE". They apparently put the cup in each city for 6 months after that. So ghey. Its a CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!

I nearly went to (what I lovingly refer to as pirate school) to become a man of the watch/master mariner and work on cruise ships/super-yachts

but I heard way too many horror stories involving passports and runs to the embassies and I was more keen on working on smaller boats than travelling far and wide anyway

I never heard much of any passport problems or embassy runs in all my time, but I suppose working for a giant company avoids those things. I can see working yachts maybe being a tad more disorganized. I think working ships is a great experience for anyone in their 20s-30s. Free travel, room and board, meals, etc and you get to meet so many wonderful people that you become very fast friends with because you work together so much. It takes a certain personality to do it, but man I've got some great friends all over the planet now. It almost like the military the way you bond with your co-workers.

Colts just placed Carson Wentz on COVID list, meaning he is out for Sunday against the Raiders. Any news from our camp yet if we are getting anyone back?
