the first leaks were already bad and that was just a few questions about why he brought his own towel - he literally has no answer for any of it... and we're gonna see that the only reason he wasn't indicted is because it's really tough to get evidence to prosecute in these sorts of cases

gonna wait and see to see what actually comes out but if it's as bad as it could be then there's no way he's not getting suspended

Apparently, Watson just kept showing up to the Texans' facility last year so he would continue to get paid. I don't see there being any motivation for him to do much more than that in Cleveland, given this contract. It'll be interesting to see if he's actually motivated to properly compete. I just doubt he'll do much. I think the Browns just filled a dumpster with gasoline and hopped in with a lit match.

i should have known it would be this way tbh - it was exactly the same last year too... had a hot last week of march and then the next week i was with a group of kids on some boats out on the water in shorts and t-shirts getting snowed on

and snow in london is rare as hell lol

Happy birthday dude!

Had the same kind of weather fluctuation here (Connecticut) too. It was in the 60s over the weekend and then it was back down to 20s/30s on Monday and Tuesday lol

Just make sure you drink enough that you think you're on a warm beach somewhere lol

that's normally easy lol - i literally work outside on a lake in the sunshine for most of the year... just happened to start snowing on my birthday

but ive definitely started drinking lol

I mean that argument could be made about any player under contract. If we subscribed to that no one would extend any player because you never know if they are going to try.

I would generally agree, except that he's in the unique position of a fully guaranteed contract. Unlike everyone else in the NFL, his paycheck will not be affected by his levels of effort and accomplishment.
I also wonder how he responds on the field, going from someone who was very well liked to being, I assume, relentlessly ridiculed from the stands every time he steps onto a field. Obviously, there is no way I could predict the latter.

I remember when I was in England the minute there was some sunshine everyone wore shorts and t-shirts not matter how cold/hot it was haha.

The lack of guaranteed contracts is a unique football thing. Other sports have guaranteed contracts and the players still show up and try. In order to make it as far as they have they had to have drive and that is not suddenly going to stop just because they got paid. The people who get these mega deals are driven and always find a new thing to be driven about.

While we're all sad remember that absolutely garbage Ravens end of year team almost beat the Rams team that won the superbowl.

Is Nakobe Dean even on our radar in RD1? Maybe in a trade back? Not at all?

i personally dont think he's a R1 guy - feels like a very late R1/early R2 guy to me who a team at the end of R1 might fall in love with - shares a lot of similarities with PQ coming out but has more tape because he's more than a 1 year starter but is also smaller than PQ - think he might be a little ahead of where PQ (and you can see dean's intelligence and preparedness show up towards the end of the year)

but hard to see them fitting well as a duo as the defence has been constructed in the past - neither have ever been particularly good or consistent taking on blocks in the running game

also worth pointing out that dean had probably the easiest ride a LB could hope for playing behind that Georgia DL and in a scheme designed for LBs to attack

if we're trading down and going after a LB in R1, i can almost guarantee you it'll be Devin Lloyd

still number 1 even after one of the worst years of defence in franchise history - the defensive history is so rich here

Thanks for this. I really haven't looked at the ILBs at all yet

Well, its not impacted by level of accomplishment.
Level of effort is a whole different thing. If he's literally out there at practice doing nothing and not even trying, a team would have no issue suspending him and not paying him. A fully guaranteed contract doesn't preclude somebody from getting suspended and not getting paid.

I don't think what happened last year has anything to do with the future. He probably did the bare minimum last year because the team had already told him there was nothing he could do to get on the field.

Basically the equivalent of, say, your boss telling you that no matter how hard you worked, you'd never make more money or get promoted. How motivated would you be to do your job at anything above the minimum possible level?

Additionally, note the fact that Watson will be a UFA again at 32, which is still quite young for an NFL QB. I imagine he'll want at least one more large payday. It's easy for fans to say "yeah well he's already gotten like $300M", which is true, but if there's anything we know about rich people, it's that they generally always want more. Just because we can't fathom their wealth doesn't mean they're content with that wealth ceasing to grow.

Most Pro Athletes want to play and play well until they can't do it anymore. I have no reason to think Watson will be different.

The Georgia line and having Quay Walker allowed them to play Dean in different alignments. He may not have that ability as often in the NFL. Will be interesting to follow his success in the NFL.

Yeah I think it depends where Dean ends up and the cast around him. Walker was the stack and shed guy while Tindall was your missile. Dean feels like a solid at everything but no true standout traits type of guy to me. I like him but I don’t put him on a pedestal above most of the other guys in that day 2 range.
