The Random Thought Thread

1. You already get certain call-ups.
2. Again, if you're paying an entire PS an NFL salary for the entire season, that's more money for those players and less money for other players. Still same salary cap for everybody.

I agree in-game injuries create imbalance, but there's nothing that can be done about that. If Tom Brady gets hurt during the game, there's nothing on your PS that's going to overcome that imbalance.
No you only pay the practice squad NFL salaries (vet minimum) for being active. I thought there was a rule of 51 or something when it comes to the cap.

I've never understood why you need a roster limit when you have a salary cap. If a team wats to spread the cap dollars on 60 people instead, why not let tem? Woukd be even more roster strategy
this would just have teams hoarding players, especially young players. If there was any change it would be to the gameday inactive roster, which has changed over the years.

Never mind on my statement on the Rule of 51. I see it's only for the offseason.

Roster rules are for parity. They want evenly matched teams from a numbers perspective. And they want teams to have to make tough decisions on how to construct those game day rosters. Not that hard to figure out.

So how are you folks feeling about this upcoming season?

Me personally? I'm cautiously optimistic.
I'm optimistic with a realistic twist.

Right but I'm saying you're trying to expand so that the PS is basically an active roster. That means they'll be active all year, and there basically isn't a PS anymore. So they're all making at least the league minimum. PS players make less than that when they're not on the active roster.

I've been thinking about this since the 3rd preseason game and it was also recently brought up in the Athletic. Harbaugh typically has the Ravens prepared well in training camp and preseason thus we start pretty well, for the most part, however this season most of the established veterans didn't play in the preseason or didn't play much. I'm wondering how that affects us in our games early in the season.

Yep know a few people that were on ps…most of them dnt get paid anything close to the nfl money we have in mind.

Mitch Trubisky was named the Steelers starting QB, Pickett is the backup. No rookie QBs starting in week 1 for the first time since 2007.

PS players make basically between $12K and $20K per week during the season, depending on tenure.
Know guys that made less than that.. he was bringing home like 3200 or 11000 i dnt remember.. maybe he said they took 3k in taxes but other guy for sure said 15k, but like you said it was maybe his 3rd or 4th year in lg

That's also this upcoming year numbers. I'm sure it was lower before. Tenured guys make more.

"Practice squad players make $11,500 per week or $207,000 for 18 weeks. Veteran players with over two years of experience will make a minimum of $15,400 per week or $277,200 for 18 weeks, and a maximum of $19,900 per week or $358,200."

yes, this is correct and it was a lot less not too long ago.

Also new this season is it's a fixed amount, whereas in the past some teams paid more than others. I believe it is much better this way.
