The Random Thought Thread

With deep comebacks, quick outs and straight up hooks nobody worked the sidelines better than Mason especially on late drives that won the Ravens games. While I loved Q and hated the trade Mason is by far the best wideout in Ravens history.

On a sidenote I need to look up Mason's history combined with his time with the Titans to see if he's HOF worthy. By eyesight he damn sure was.

I know pro bowls aren’t the end all be all, but only two and only one all pro kinda makes it hard. There are plenty other receivers who’ve accomplished more who are still waiting to get in/had a difficult time getting in

I’ll admit to not having watched much of this years college football but from what I’ve heard the WR class isn’t amazing the way the last few have been
I don't think many have looking at the college thread. I 've watched less myself. Just so much damn busier this year for some odd reason. I've always liked hoarding draft picks but I just dont see much this year. Besides acquiring Roquan I would have thrown our 3rd and other 5th for Jeudy and just went with 3 or 4 picks with one being our 1st. Nesissity with this is we have to resign Roquan!! I haven't seen shit in college that I'm remotely interested in

That will be enough to keep him out I'm afraid when guys like Hines Ward who is more recognizable and in the same mold isn't in. Hell will probally freeze over before we get a wr in the hall lol.

Ward is 27th all time on the receiving yards list. Mason is 28th lol

Ward has him beat in TDs by a long shot. Mason is tied for 58th place with 66. Ward is tied for 16th with 85

I think between the 2, Ward has too many advantages statically and has hardware.

Mason > Q and I don’t hesitate on that one. If Q was here post-SB then it probably changes, he could’ve been a big difference maker in 2014 but he never got that chance. But man Derrick Mason carried our offense back when we were in between Jamal’s prime and mcgahee’s arrival, and his sideline work paired with Flaccos cannon to deliver the ball to the far sideline was a big focal point of joes first 4 years, we had the run game clicking but the passing game mostly revolved around Joe ripping comebacks and back shoulders to Derrick Mason

Q hands down for me

He’s HOF worthy numbers wise, and consistency and longevity wise, but people will always use their own personal standards to bar him and downplay how good he was

It feels like this is either the trade for next year or throw as many darts as possible draft. I’m not a fan of the wr class, I like the corner, OL, DT, and edge/olb classes a lot

So frustrating - he’s basically gonna be in year 4 by the time he’s fully healthy which is nuts

If he can recover he’s still got a chance to be great obviously but when he was drafted and how he’s played early he looked like he was well on his way to being easily the best WR the ravens have ever drafted

Right now it’s still Hollywood

Jimmy Smith had a lisfranc back in early November 2014. I believe he was back to his normal self the next season.

Bateman has a screw in his foot from Lisfranc surgery. Not trying to overreact but he'll likely not be 100% himself until 2024 although he'll be able to play even at the start of 2023. Unfortunately, we can't just rely on him being our number one. He's missed a ton of time already, is coming off a big injury, and even when healthy was not at all super productive. That being said he showed flashes of being elite and big play potential. What a terrible situation. The Ravens finally get a Rashod Bateman and then this happens.
Hard to argue he isn’t a bust already based on time missed in his first two years. Ravens will surely be looking at WR in FA Or early in the draft. Batemen has an up hill battle ahead of him.

Certainly not a bust, but a very disappointing start to his career. This is not Perriman who was hurt and truly never showed anything of any positivity ever. Bateman is good and can be better. He needs to stay on the field and show that.

Eh Batemen was never the budding superstar a lot of us tried to convince ourself he was. Solid player but soon to be regulated to the #2 role when EDC attacks the position in the off-season. I truly believe EDC will resolve our WR hell soon. Much like Hollywood, people shouldn’t be surprised if Batemen is gone after one contract.

I’m already resigning myself to a long stretch of the wr room being a revolving door

I don’t think EDC will sign Lamar and than leave him with this hot mess. Feel like he is about to get aggressive in the off-season. We’ll take a hit some where else on the team but so be it to really see Lamar shine with talent at the skill positions around him

Still don't think bust but I said earlier I think he achieves his ceiling with another team. Would doubt to see him sign a second contract with us.

Naw he wont make it..

Its really kinda hard to tell if bateman couldve been a #1 wr for us imo. I wouldnt be surprised if bateman left after one contract or if he even requested a trade before its over.. he is clearly better than how we use him

Don't get it twisted. If we like the results of how this year turns out and we decide to commit to Greg Roman for a few more years, I don't think we should ever select a WR in the first round during that tenure. It's a literal waste because it's actually not working towards the same goal.

You draft a WR in the first round to get 5 years of extremely high level pay for little money. Then you usually let the guy walk or if it's a Davante Adam's type you sign em up long term. The Ravens are incapable of producing that in a WR, it isn't the focus of the offense, and I find it unlikely EDC could fleece someone the way he did Arizona in the Hollywood situation again.

If you're going all in on a GRo offense, use the draft to strengthen the defense, OL and run game. Use FA to pick up WR2/WR3 types and it's fine. Draft WRs with developmental upside in the later rounds.

I’d like to think EDC will do that but I’m just not sure how. The free agent market for WRs is trash next year unless you load up on guys like Jakobi Meyers and JuJu Smith-Schuster (which I wouldn’t hate). There’s no way we should be heading into next year counting on the likes of Robinson and DeSean, and Proche and Wallace should only be extremely deep depth, if even on the roster. I don’t want to draft WRs high anymore. Like I’m done with that lol. I don’t think Lamar necessarily needs a bonafide “number 1” stud, but he needs way better than what he currently has… like a LOT better
