The Random Thought Thread

I’d like to think EDC will do that but I’m just not sure how. The free agent market for WRs is trash next year unless you load up on guys like Jakobi Meyers and JuJu Smith-Schuster (which I wouldn’t hate). There’s no way we should be heading into next year counting on the likes of Robinson and DeSean, and Proche and Wallace should only be extremely deep depth, if even on the roster. I don’t want to draft WRs high anymore. Like I’m done with that lol. I don’t think Lamar necessarily needs a bonafide “number 1” stud, but he needs way better than what he currently has… like a LOT better
This is exactly right. Lamar in a GRo offense can't even maximize a WR1. There's no point. That being said he needs better than WR4-6s

Hard to argue he isn’t a bust already based on time missed in his first two years. Ravens will surely be looking at WR in FA Or early in the draft. Batemen has an up hill battle ahead of him.
I don't think he has an uphill battle at all nor do I think he is a bust. Sure the injuries have been unfortunate, but he will be fine next season.

Keep in mind that "Hollywood" Brown played with two screws in his foot. He did pretty well as a rookie (7 TDs in 14 games), and even better after that. In his 52 NFL games played, including 6 with the Cardinals (he is now on IR), he caught 24 TD passes. No reason to think Batemen can't come back and be productive in 2023. He'll only be 23 in 10 days... Bc

Don't get it twisted. If we like the results of how this year turns out and we decide to commit to Greg Roman for a few more years, I don't think we should ever select a WR in the first round during that tenure. It's a literal waste because it's actually not working towards the same goal.

You draft a WR in the first round to get 5 years of extremely high level pay for little money. Then you usually let the guy walk or if it's a Davante Adam's type you sign em up long term. The Ravens are incapable of producing that in a WR, it isn't the focus of the offense, and I find it unlikely EDC could fleece someone the way he did Arizona in the Hollywood situation again.

If you're going all in on a GRo offense, use the draft to strengthen the defense, OL and run game. Use FA to pick up WR2/WR3 types and it's fine. Draft WRs with developmental upside in the later rounds.

If we got to do all that on draft day then the coach needs to go. No way in hell can any of you convince me that if Marvin Harrison JR is available to us that we don't take him because WR isn't a focus on offense.

I disagree. If given a better WR group Roman’s offense becomes much more dangerous. We watched it play out in 2021 before the injuries crushed us. Brown, Batemen, and Duv looked great while they were all on the field together. Pretty sure that was hollywoods best year as well. We don’t need a DK or AJ Brown type to bump this offense to the next level, but you can’t ask Roman or Lamar to win consistently with what we went into the season with. Much much credit toRoman for adjusting and tweaking the offense. We hate on him alot but he deserve a lot of praise this year

I agree with you, that's what I said haha. Don't need a DK or an AJ Brown. Just need better than Proche, Wallace, Robinson and Jackson.

May not be a popular opinion, but at this point I don’t see WR as a critical need. Lately the guys we have are getting open and can catch, thinking we just need to take advantage of that and blend it in with the formidable run game.
The critical piece for me is when teams are daring us to pass we need to be able to execute.

We don't need GRo to have an awesome running game with the backs we have, Lamar, Ricard and this O line.
Nobody else in the league has Roman, yet near everybody is playing good to above average run game.

I was disagreeing with your idea of not selecting someone in the 1st because it’s a waste. We need to keep trying and when we succeed it will elevate this offense

Totally agree here. It's just that good defenses will have the run defense to put us in those spots. And they'll likely also have good secondaries. Don't need DJ Moore or AJ Brown, but it would be nice if Duv wasn't WR1 and DJax as WR2.

Ok so let me be more clear to how I actually feel. I will not necessarily be upset if we take first round WRs with GRo at OC, but there are a lot of people (and honestly rightfully so) that feel like it's a huge necessity and we're basically forced to take a WR round 1. I'd rather stick to BPA in RD1 and just make sure to bring vets in in FA and take shots rounds 2-4 at WR.

As time elapses and with the acquisition of Roquan for picks in a trade, I am not sure how this off-season will play out contractually for Lamar and Roquan. I don't see Bisciotti being able to shell out guaranteed money and I don't see Lamar budging from his stance. If there is one thing about both these men, it is that they are consistent. The ideal scenario would be to sign Roquan to a deal during 2022 and then franchise Lamar while continuing to work a contract with him. That is the only plausible outcome I see, regardless of how we do this season, including winning the SB. It just sucks to be in this wait-and-see period for fans and an anxious padre.

For '23 draft we already took our shot with the 2nd pick but I agree, if the 1st round worthy WR isn't there, take the best guy.

is he even eligible to come out that season

won't be able to sign roquan and franchise lamar. Both would need to be extended if you are going to sign both of them or we extend Lamar and franchise Roquan, but not the other way around.

NFL better increase pay... they got to compete with the price of Pokemon Cards. Former Raiders LB Blake Martinez sold a rare Pokemon card for $672,000. More than half of what he was making playing for the Raiders, then days later he retired.
No wonder he retired

I want so badly for Bateman to achieve his potential which is just ultra high. I'm just nervous that hell end up doing it with another franchise
Certainly not a bust, but a very disappointing start to his career. This is not Perriman who was hurt and truly never showed anything of any positivity ever. Bateman is good and can be better. He needs to stay on the field and show that.
Eh Batemen was never the budding superstar a lot of us tried to convince ourself he was. Solid player but soon to be regulated to the #2 role when EDC attacks the position in the off-season. I truly believe EDC will resolve our WR hell soon. Much like Hollywood, people shouldn’t be surprised if Batemen is gone after one contract.
I find it funny when ppl talk about Bateman being a bust. We've all seen the flashes. He's only in his second year. Dude's gonna ball out next year. Even better if we find him a running mate. I love Duv, but he ain't a #2. So him on ST and mix him in as a poor man's Deebo. Perfect role for him.

Juju or Jakobi would be perfect compliments to Bateman and Duv. No need to splurge on WR with how little we throw to WR. Just give me someone who can move the chains

I hear ya. Duv is a perfect change of pace gadget guy. Bateman is your do it all and big play guy. This offense just needs an ol' reliable.
