The Random Thought Thread

yep, that has never happened. I can think of one of the top of my head where it should have happened but didn't. The skins should have fired Gruden and hired McVay, but this wasn't a case where the team was doing well consistently.
The closest thing I can think of at the moment was Bruce Arians resigning (not getting fired mind you) so that Bowles could get promoted. And that's not been overly successful really either.

very true, didn't think about that one. I'm a fan of Bowles as a defensive coordinator and I rooted for him when he was a Safety for the Redskins back in the day. He was signed as an UDFA and helped them beat the Broncos in the Super bowl back in the 1987 season, but I'm off on a tangent. I think it's early in his campaign as HC and I'd like to see him succeed, but I see him as more a DC than a HC.

has there been any successful players of obajo caliber that got injured either right before draft or during last year of college season? I honestly cant think of none. I know cowboys selected a few but none really amounted to anything

i mean if we're including major injuries in final college seasons then there's loads...

jaylon waddle
landon dickerson
tua tagovailoa
jeffery simmons
myles jack
jaylon smith

those are the obvious guys that come to mind with significant major injuries in their final year/very close to being drafted who have been successful

Is jaylon smith playing well? Thought cowboys cut him

Umm... is this post serious? This was a joke right?

If Kubiak had no HC ambition, somebody forgot to tell him that, considering he left immediately for a HC job. The only reason he was the OC for us is because he got fired from being a HC (for a long time mind you) and couldn't immediately get a new one.

Trestman is literally the same thing. Only reason he's available to be the OC of the Ravens is because he got fired from being a HC. Spent 5 years as a HC in the CFL, then two years in Chicago. When he was fired by the Ravens, guess what he did next? HC in the CFL.

Like those two guys literally had nothing but HC ambitions.

The only one that probably didn't was Marty. And he got the job because they fired Trestman mid-season (proving that firing OC's mid-season does NOT necessarily lead to a waterfall of offensive output). Marty was already on the staff as QBs coach, and he kept the job because he had like 15 years of experience calling plays in the NFL. Including some very successful stints doing so elsewhere.

What's next? We going to keep trying to sell people that Kubiak was Steve's idea, despite the only paper in town that reported it having to post a retraction because it was proven wrong?
Kubiak would never turn down his dream job of being the head coach for Denver. It was the perfect timing for him and literally the perfect opportunity. I don’t think he’d take another head coaching job over that given his condition at the time

Trestman as a head coach in the CFL doesn’t mean what I think you think it means

I know you didn’t mention Bernard Pollard, but fuck Bernard Pollard. It doesn’t take a Bernard Pollard to maybe think that Harbaugh has hired shit coordinators who can’t find jobs elsewhere

Kubiak himself said he took the job because it's Denver and he wouldn't take any other HC job (remember him colapsing during the Texans game?).

Trestman was available for the Ravens because nobody else wanted him as either OC or a HC, hence Canada again.

Obviously neither was a threat to Harbaugh.

This is where I stop this conversation.

OK, but they're also not being hired because they're not threatening. They're being hired because they had a track record of success in the league as a play caller. These weren't just random guys who nobody ever heard of. Can claim that Kubiak wouldn't have gone anywhere else, but I think he would have instantly hopped at just about any HC job that would have been offered, and it just so happened that Denver was one of them. Like sure, he collapsed in Houston. Then miraculously he's working 16-18 hour days as an OC months later. Weird. For somebody who's health was such an issue, he sure seemed to not be taking it easy at all.

I get it. There's a small contingent of morons who think John is insecure and threatened by hiring good coordinators, good players, etc. The examples people give, like these, just make no sense whatsoever. As somebody mentioned, its just from the Bernard Pollard school of "I'm bitter, so let me trash the people who don't want me anymore, even though nobody wanted me".

Nobody puts any weight in it.

Morons?

Get fucked.

I give the odds ,with Lamar out 1-3 weeks, about 50-50 to make the playoffs.

If we beat the Steelers at Pittsburgh , it will be a complete and thorough miracle. You play the Steelers and the Refs
at Heinz Field.

I think we'll lose, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see us beat Pittsburgh this weekend. Pickett isn't much, if any, upgrade over Huntley. Then its just a question of which team you think has the better roster. Which I'd take Ravens over Steelers.

I will be shocked. If Stanley and Mekari dont play and Faellele gotta play LT , forget about a win.

I think one or both play, likely Stanley. But will wait to see injury reports this week. Also think you'll see Marcus Williams out there and possibly Ojabo also with Queen out.

My goodness, I almost forgot about the refs part. I remember how bad the refs were in Lamar's only win against the Steelers in 2019 (Devin Bush's "INT" which hit the ground and the "roughing the passer" penalty before the end of the first half).

Then they had the nerve to bitch about the refs calling a soft RTP on our game winning drive

That game isn’t down to the wire if that obvious no-int was called correctly
