Whether they're standing up or in a 3 pt stance, they don't back up the line or play behind it - there's nothing linebacker about them. ( Not even Bowser, who plays coverage quite often and is actually good at it. The value of his coverage is still the surprise/disguise. No one's surprised to see an actual linebacker play coverage.)

It's just an outdated, wordy and inaccurate term.

I gotta have this argument on fb constantly because LT and ray Lewis are always ranked 1 and 2 in stupid fb posts
 
I'm sure we had these conversations before, but to everyone on this forum, I have a question for you: would you have preferred to have seen our starters play a couple of possessions each preseason game or have NONE of the starters play a single snap in the preseason?

For me? I'm so torn. Usually, I'm option #1 especially when implementing a brand new offense. However, 2021 happened. Now, I just go back and forth with this.

ever since 2021, I'm fine with the starters not playing and understand they could start rusty. Actually very likely.

Actually had this discussion today. Me personally I think they should at least play as a unit some the second game. But I understand the paranoia, some guys are just so fragile these days and you would hate to lose a key piece in a meaningless game.

I prefer they stay healthy for games that matter

I'd play them. Assuming they play ~1000 snaps in the reg season, adding 30 in the PS *should* just increase the injury risk by 3%. I am willing to take that risk to get some live reps.
Then, we'd all go bananas when we lose a star player, but statistically, the risk isn't that large

(yes, simplified math, but close enough)

I still prefer they play a couple of series. Hell the starters used to sit only game 4 when we had 4 and sometimes played into the 2nd half and I do understand the jitteriness but you can just get hurt on the practice field or accidently fall down a flight of stairs.
