Defense adjusted Value Over Average

  • How it works
    DVOA analyzes every play during a season, assigning a value to each based on the down, distance, and other factors. It then compares each team's success to the league average to determine how much better or worse they are.


  • What it predicts
    DVOA can predict a team's final record, including their offensive and defensive ranks, special teams rank, and the average number of wins they'll get.


  • How to interpret
    A positive DVOA indicates that a team is performing better than average, while a negative DVOA suggests a defensive strength.
