The Random Thought Thread

I need something clarified if anyone can help.

If you catch the ball on a comeback route, say you catch the ball at the line to gain, and momentum Carries you a yard short before being touched down or going out of bounds, you don’t actively retreat to fight for more yards, you simply catch the ball at the sticks and momentum brings you a yard short, is forward progress eliminated there and you are marked short? Because in the nfl, it happens ALL THE TIME on comeback routes, it’s caught at the sticks and receiver goes down/out a yard shy and forward progress calls it a first down.

Facebook folks are arguing that forward progress is eliminated in this situation. I have never seen that ruled in real time. Every time a situation like this occurs, forward progress is ruled. The only time this isn’t the case, is when the receiver actively retreats (football move) to try to fight for more yards afterwards.

I always wonder if our international fans truly understand the dynamic of the city/surrounding area. This is one side lol

My family has the strongest Baltimore accents in existence, nobody says balmer. It’s baldamore or baldamer.
Voldemort?

On a real note, even after spending years away from the city i still find my self saying things like Oreos instead of Orioles when I'm talking quickly

it is where you were touched and the knee was down. Just because you caught that ball passed the line to gain matter. The comp is Zach Ertz this past week, which was the correct spot. If Zach Ertz was able to go down right after catching the ball and then got touched, he would have had a first down. However, his momentum brought him behind the line to gain and then his knee went down and was touched just short of the first down.

Forward prograss would be if the player pushed him back a few yards, he would get moved back to where the player initially contacted him and stopped his progress.

Are you 100% sure about this? Because I swear I’ve seen instances where forward progress is ruled in this scenario. If so then I’ve made an ass out of myself on Facebook lol

yes, I'm 100% sure. Forward progress doesn't start until he gets touched.

Good news though is that it’s Facebook so someone else will make a biggervass of themselves in an hour and all will be forgotten.
