The Random Thought Thread

I’ve come to the realization that justice hill is way better than I’ve given him credit for.

Todd monken has really woke him up, he sucked ass in Greg Roman’s offense but monken uses him brilliantly. Plus Lamar trusts him a great deal, he’s comfortable with him in pass pro and lamar gives him a lot of opportunities in the pass game, like low percentage throws you don’t typically do with a rb.

justice is a decent runner
a good receiver
but a really good pass protector

and a really reliable guy in all those roles in 3rd down (and importantly, seems to read the game similarly to lamar)

His improv against the Steelers to score that td at the end of the half was brilliant, he did his job in pass pro and knew right away that the ball wasn’t out and he had to hit the opening so Lamar had an outlet. Seriously high iq high chemistry play

Wasn't too difficult with PQ to protect against and squeeze out though

Each team in both the AFC East and NFC West will get special rivalry jerseys that they will wear in each of these games. They'll be revealed on 08/28. I'm really curious to see how ours will look when it's our division's turn.

I wish I could find it now but the internet is being a fickle bitch.

Anyone remember the picture of Reed intercepting the shoe thrown at George Bush's head at that press conference in Iraq? That shit had me in stiches.

What a time to be alive

For some reason I rewatched our afc championship game last night, and here’s my takeaways…

Lamar needed to do better on deep balls, he missed 3 deep throws where the receiver had the separation, he overthrew them all by about a yard or two, if he hits those throws, we likely win that game because they all would’ve put us in fg position.

Monken did very little to help Lamar in that game, frankly he left him out there to die in the pocket, spags went CRAZY with the blitz and basically every time Lamar was counted on to scramble and go deep, when we should’ve been designing screens, quick slants, and TE misdirection plays.

Andy Reid put on a playcalling clinic in the first quarter, the misdirection and confusion his play designs caused was downright brilliant, I’m jealous of the chiefs playcalling, that man is an absolute mastermind, and it left our offense in desperation mode for the whole game.

Kyle Hamilton might be the most dominant defender in the game today.

Zay flowers deservedly gets a lot of blame for the goal line fumble, that was an unacceptable lapse, but he was over half of our offense that day.

Mark Andrews had a drop, Nelly had a drop, both crucial.

Likely needed all of Andrews snaps and Andrews should’ve stayed sidelined.

Justice hill needed to be the feature weapon in that game, when he was a designed target, or used as an outlet against the blitz, he gashed them, and he wasn’t used this way until late in the game and had he been used that way from the beginning, the chiefs entire defensive gameplan would’ve changed and we would’ve been able to stretch the field, which is clearly what monken wanted.

The lack of PI on Likely is every bit as egregious as we remember, and there was another PI on OBJ that wasn’t called and absolutely should’ve been late in the game.

Lamar needed to do better on deep balls but that was only 3 plays, the clear standout was the lack of blitz-beating play design, it absolutely needed to be the focal point and it took way too long to start doing it. Once again we fell short mostly due to a weak gameplan.

and yet we overcame it late, only to fail in some critical moments with key errors

With those key errors I wouldn’t say we overcame anything. If we overcame it we would’ve punched it in with zay instead of fumbling, and punched it in instead of kicking a FG late, we also would’ve covered that 3rd and long bomb to MVS that iced the game.

Defense locked in and offense tuned up and started moving the ball better once the playcalling started countering the blitz, but coming up short and committing turnovers in key moments late in the game I’d say is the exact opposite of overcoming.

And we did it again against Buffalo, albeit we did get much closer to actually overcoming than we did against the chiefs, but it was still failures on key downs and dumb turnovers that had us fall short.

That MVS bomb pisses me the fuck off, wish Lamar got one final shot
