The Random Thought Thread

I got Denver winning, and Houston pulling off the upset against New England thanks to their defense. NFC, I have Rams and Seahawks.
Houston was my afc Super Bowl pick until I saw stroud against Pitt. He’s lacking a lot of something come playoff time it looks like, lots of mistakes that would’ve absolutely crushed them against a normal offense. plus Nico Collins being out hurts.

Houston biased here. That Steelers game was dumbfounding, Stroud hadn't fumbled all season. I trust him to be a steady the ship and hit a couple key plays type for this run.

Bias aside, all the teams left are flawed and don't feel like juggernauts. Seems like it happens every few years.

Divisional Round Thread is up....... let's hope Denver ends Josh Allen's season here so we can all make fun of Allen for not getting it done in the playoffs when there is no Mahomes, Burrow or Lamar.

I guess that link was broken.

Apparently they did have some optimism that they might have a coach in place in time for the senior bowl

Alas that seems exceedingly unlikely
I mean they can effectively pick their guy next week. It'll just come down to whether its formally announced and whether that can coach participate in the Senior Bowl process.
If they go with Kubiak, for example, they'll have verbal agreements in place and I'm sure it'll be reported by then. Just not final.

If they want a coach to be involved in Senior Bowl scouting, I imagine that starts at least a week before the Senior Bowl, so they're basically already fucked unless they hire somebody in the next 48 hours.

I've been pretty relaxed about this whole coach hiring process because nobody knows who will make a good head coach. We wanted Garrett ahead of Harbaugh. Quite often the last guy hired, when all the first choice coaches are off the market ends up as the best one. So I didn't really have a strong opinion on who it should be.

That was until I saw that they want to keep Chris fucking Horton. Now I'm convinced they're going to fuck this right up and we'll be wishing we'd kept Harbaugh by October. I have zero faith in your judgement on coaching hires if you think Chris Horton has done a good job.
Well three obvious caveats:
1. This doesn't mean they're keeping Horton. It means they want the new HC to have the option of retaining Horton if he chooses. Doesn't mean he stays.
2. He's been the ST coordinator for 7 years, and was the assistant ST coach for five years before that. So unless we think our ST has been garbage for a decade or more (which it clearly hasn't), I'm not sure fans are doing good analysis by making judgments about coaching staff based on one year sample sizes. Especially when the larger sample size suggests he's a good coach.
3. It would appear that the NFL at large thoroughly disagrees with your assessment, based on the seemingly high demand for him.

he may not owe them anything but it would have been the right thing to do.
There's no arguing with him. He doesn't even care about any of this stuff. He just chooses what his opinion will be based on what others say ao he can prop himself up as the smart contrarian who "blasts stupid people".
