The Random Thought Thread

Remember when this board was having a meltdown in the first couple of hours of the tampering period of free agency. Doesn't feel that way now, does it?

Or maybe it's just acceptance.
Well my point is that we didn't have the cap space to make a "splash move" and even if we did it, we wouldn't go all out in the first day ala the Dolphins and Redskins of years ago. I mean people were saying we had the "worst roster in the AFC North" despite how strong our defense looked for the most part and the draft was months away.

Well, it's too late now. Wait for real games to start, then we can revisit the issue :p
I'm not even saying we'll make the playoffs (we better or there needs to be immediate house cleaning). It's simple as a "wait-and-see" approach. Nothing more nothing less.

Just heard Sizzle's conf. call with PSL owners. Pretty much confirmed (twice) what most of us figured out - the difference on D this season will be players put in right position to make plays.

Fuck you, Dean Pees.

Was about to come here and say the same thing - he mentioned “shackles” a few times - it’s interesting that as a senior player he feels like guys weren’t necessarily put in the best position to succeed and he did speak very fondly of “organised chaos” - a lot of us were hoping for this last year and maybe it’s too good to be true that the players we had were all being held back but if it is then the linebackers are gonna be fun to watch come unbound especially if wink as the former linebacker coach feels like they were being stymied by the previous defence

From what you are hearing, do think Wink’s defense will be more in line with Chuck Pagano’s style when he was our defensive coordinator?

Didn't we hear something last year about how aggressive we'd be? Will believe it when I see it.
Yeah, we heard it about how a Dean Pees defense was going to change to be more aggressive. That's different than talking about a completely new DC's strategy.

From the sounds ot it, it may be closer to Rex's defense.

Tennessee is going to figure that out the hard way.

I think it’ll be something new - it’s own incarnation of the same defensive scheme we’ve seemingly run for ever...

It’ll be interesting to see how wink evolves it in terms of tendencies and playcalling but I think it would do him (and the team) a disservice to expect the same defensive style as previous DCs

And we’ve still got 3 and a half months til we find out what it will look like

Holy crap. That Steelers defense is Swiss cheese outside of like 3 players.. Holy shit. That offense is gonna make them a total problem.. But if our offense is just good, which it very well could be.... We have an actual reason to think we could win this division. I think that this season could be akin to a 2011. Defense could return to form if it's FINALLY healthy, offense has the potential to take the next step given that there's definitive upgrades.

The steelers and Bengals are going to be a problem, but when are they ever not? That's the real question. Our division race is tight and the Steelers might be outmatched next season. That defense of there's is Swiss cheese and they have to go against a bunch of offenses that can keep up with them like the Saints, Chargers, Falcons, probably the Panthers. All four of those teams also have good defenses.

I think the Steelers are done being the top dogs of the North. If not this year, than easily next year even with Ben
