Joe Flacco

Flaccos contract isnt the only reason we have a cheap offense but its the main reason, the other is missing on draft picks... not that we can afford to keep quality players anyway after KO and Jensen walked.

I just dont get mitigating crippling contracts because other teams have overpaid QBs, thats a justification between teams that dont make the playoffs. When you take on the lions share of the cap then you need to take on the lions share of the responsibility to produce, period. Flacco needs to produce.

Flaccos contract isn't even in the top 5 reasons the Ravens have no offensive playmakers but its a cute line that the national media uses because they don't look at how the contract was structured.

Flaccos contract for the first 3 years had cap hits of 6M, 14M, and 14M so basically mediocre cap hits, but the Ravens still have no playmakers but the money did go somewhere...

Ray Rice
Dennis Pitta
Eugene Monroe
Webb
and at this point I'm tempted to include Jimmy

The cap hits from those contracts hurt the Ravens even now. Now imagine if instead of all those misses (and I feel like I'm missing another big one) you had that cap space to sign your other players. Imagine for a moment a starting OLine of Stanley-KO-Jensen-Yanda-Wagner and now look above and know why thats not the case (yes I know the draft may have gone diff but you get the point). The Ravens extended players and it bit them hard.

You have to include Smith, and not only his cap hit but also the salary of various other CBs they have had to carry to cover for his inevitable absences.

This is the most civil discussion about Flacco that I can remember...

Anyway our dead m9ney sits at 9.1 million, thats significant and could have helped us but its not like the $36M hole in Buffalo, and as someone mentioned nobody could have predicted Pittas leg would fall off and Rice would play punch face with his wife.

Its more than just dead money for this year though, its the way the Ravens have been forced to structure contracts and push cap hits into the future (read:now) to make up for all that dead money of years past.

I didn't blame the FO, but the reality is that when you pay players and then have to eat dead money 1-2 years in, you then have to push cap hits to later years to pay next guys which means you have no room to pay the guys after them.

The sad truth is the Ravens over the past 5 years have built the best OLine in football, its just that 3/5 of it are on another team....

Definitely, Smith's injury and suspension has severily let this team down. I think his time is up here sadly.

KO, Jensen, and ?
Wagner, but he's only been good for 2 out of the 4 years he was here. Same with K.O though he did contributed greatly to our SB victory in the 2012 season but Jensen was literally a one and done here and left after that.

I don't think we got that much from those guys considering the pay days they received. We didn't get the type of consistency that those teams will be getting when it comes to those three.

Don't sell Wagner short, especially with who is coming Sunday.
Oh yeah, I'm not selling him short, but I did forget about him when I was thinking of who had left.

Good point.

Raiders are getting value from KO and while its too soon to tell on others, I wouldn't bet against them.

My personal opinion is Wagner wasn't that great and was the most replaceable of the 3. I campaigned crazy for KO and really wish we could've kept Jensen.
