Joe Flacco

Lamar is special when he gets an opening and takes off. He has only thrown it a few times. One or two throws were decent and the rest left me scratching my head. I think teams are starting to figure out how to stall our drives when we bring Lamar in. I get a lot of guys do not like Joe, but personally I think Joe has been a victim of too many offensive coordinator changes and neglect to our offense. If we could have kept Kubiak and addressed the offensive with better picks, I believe we would have kept making the playoffs. Our offense line and receiving Corp has been seriously lacking. We have had some big games the last several years like against Pittsburgh two seasons ago, the Patriots game three seasons ago, and the Saints game this season. These games were not lost by Joe, who had played his ass off. Yes Joe had some stinkers against lesser opponents and deserves some blame for our seasons, just not all of it. I still say if we are going to make the playoffs this season, Joe still gives us our best chance if he is healthy enough and should start staying on field. I understand you wanting to bring in Lamar for his rushing efficiency in the red zone. I want Joe on the field for his passing efficiency. The difference to me in those two things is I want our offensive coordinator to open up his playbook and call some good damn plays. I am seriously losing my patience with Marty.

if defences are working out how to stop lamar, then how come his plays have become more effective the further into the season we've got?

The only team who really nullified the lamar package recently was the Steelers and that’s for simple reason, every play Marty called for lamar was a power sweep or stretch and the Steelers recognized that and they threw the kitchen sink at outside contain. Calling a pass play or more RPO with inside options would have solved that problem.

or some reverse motion across the field - if we see them all selling out to the edge to stop lamar or the back, throw it or give it to a guy in motion across the formation

I am really interested in seeing who is playing today. I think if Joe plays, Marty may end up using Lamar a lot in this game.

We should do more of what the saints do with Hill

that's a little difficult to do - they can activate hill and use him because he's the 3rd qb but also a core special teamer and not the franchise - they can use him more interesting ways because of his body type and "expendability"

but what it does show is that "trick plays" is really just a derisive term for being creative

I havent seen Montgomery other for that one play on 3rd and 17 where no one ran more than 10 yards. It looks like the coaching staff isnt helping #8 at all. Edward's looks good. It's also nice to see Moore getting more playing time. I was pretty upset when everyone kept saying we had no talent at WR. Moore would probably already made a name for himself on another team.

This should be in the rwmdim thought or game thread, not thr Flacco thread

So we have a very good running game when Lamar is QB but not Joe.
I think the fit was better for the the read-option. Collins hesitates too much and doesn't hit the hole when he needs to. Gus Edwards is different in terms of hesitation and hits the hole when needed to and that's kind of why power backs work better in option plays.

To be fair, Collins still sucked ass today. It has more to do with Gus running hard and Lamar’s yards than Flacco.

Obviously Lamar makes our run game better but Collins has been shit no matter who the qb is.

While the running was impressive, we need to keep in mind that the Bengals have one of, possibly the worst run defense in the league.
