Joe Flacco

Found this over on r/Ravens. I'm gonna miss ya, Joe.
Lmao some of the memes over there kill me. The Buck Allen memes especially.

How about giving Joe some respect? Whatever gripes you have about his play, none of that deserves the trash talk about him. Did you know that it is possible to be excited for Lamar and to respect what Joe has done for us at the same time? Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

I get it, you hate his play and his inconsistency and he can be frustrating as heck but he does not deserve this disrespect. So his toughness, work ethic, the respect of his teammates, his charity work, contributing to multiple playoff wins and most of all his Super Bowl run mean absolutely nothing now? It seems that many of you have no idea what it feels like to cheer for a team your entire life and never see them win a championship. Spoiler: it's not fun!

Stop comparing him to Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. He isn't them! Most quarterbacks are not them. He is Joe. Comparing him to two of the best quarterbacks ever is simply unfair. And btw the lame argument that I've seen over and over again: "Joe was a complete idiot on that play and Tom/Aaron would NEVER do that!" is flat out false created to fit the Joe sucks narrative. I watched the entire Patriots/Titans game on the bye week. Tom was pressured. Tom was flinching at imagined pressure. Tom was throwing at the feet of his receivers. Tom was missing open receivers because he was locked in on others. Tom had batted balls. Tom is great but he had a bad game, it happens even to the best of them. So yeah, stop with the "only Joe makes crap plays" stuff.

Joe is only good at getting us to 9-7? Really? I'm sure the rest of the team and their problems had absolutely nothing to do with those failures. Has Joe's inconsistent and sometimes really bad play contributed to our losses these last years? Yes! But do you know what else contributed? Bad plays by other players, bad play calling, bad coaching and bad defense. We all know that losing as well as winning is a team effort. I remember how the last game of the season ended last year, do you? True character is shown during times of challenge and loss and Joe has never thrown any of his team mates under the bus.

Please do Lamar a favor and don't compare him to Michael Vick, to Tom Brady to Joe or anyone else. Comparison is the thief of joy. Let Lamar be Lamar. I am just as hopeful as anyone that he can lead us to multiple Super Bowls in the future. He is a Raven and I will always support him. And I truly hope Lamar gets two thing that Joe never did: a team specifically built around his strengths and the respect of the fans.

Most of us do respect what joe has done, most of us have a bittersweet feeling about this, there are a few who just despise all things joe and discredit all he’s done, but for most of us aren’t like that.

And this isn’t a problem on these boards but for most of the fan base which is plain ignorant on all things football, they discredit lamar to the point that they literally think he can’t throw a ball, they think he’s jalen hurts, and it’s not the case.

That is what I'm saying. I hope that fans are far more fair to Lamar than they ever were to Joe. It is a fact that Joe is pretty consistently ripped to shreds. Been seeing it for ten years. He gave us everything he had for a long time and he is just simply pooped on by the bandwagoners. It is common practice to take everything out of context when it comes to him. Except you can't do that in the game of football. I wish so much that his next team recognizes his strengths and weaknesses and actually builds on and around them, you know give him the best chance to succeed. The Ravens did him no favors.

We know players like reed, lewis and suggs gave it their all simply by their work ethic and passion.. they actually love the game of football and it shows.. im not saying flacco didnt try his best to win every game but giving us his all? Idk. Idk if football is his passion.

We know it just as much as we can know it about anyone. The issue is Joe's natural personality and how people interpret it. I know for a fact that laid back, cool, calm and collected men can be just as passionate as the fiery ones. I know this from direct experience.

Agreed on all fronts, he was Donovan McNabb and Tony Romo to this fan base, I’ve defended joe to the bitter end but the bitter end is here and all I can do anymore is appreciate what he accomplished with us, and I can’t defend him any more.

I’ll be sad as shit watching joe play for another team, and I’ll probably actively root for any team he goes to just because he’s there(as long as it doesn’t interfere with the ravens). I’ve always presented context to the joe haters, they don’t wanna hear it, which always got on my nerves, but at this point I’m just willing to shift a lot more blame to him than I recently would have, his games vs the Steelers and panthers were flat out unacceptable, just disgraceful, and he’s good for about 4-6 of those a year it seems. I’ll support lamar as hardcore as I supported joe, the sheer excitement of him has restored my energy as a fan, but unfortunately it already looks like the fan base is gonna tear him to shreds no matter how well he plays, and I feel for the kid for coming to such a shit fan base, but he’s also gonna have some FIERY supporters just like joe had.

I just wish most ravens fans would get a clue...

Me too. There is a way to criticize without being so disrespectful. Joe has my respect and so does Lamar. I know losing brings out the worst in people, but why does it have to get so ugly?

eta: And not making excuses, but Joe was injured. Perhaps they should have let him heal and let Lamar play instead.

All of this is true, thanks for putting us all in our place!

I will never lose respect for Joe Flacco.

offense actually had 0 points and a turnover in the 2nd half.

special teams put up 6 and gave up 2 lol.

Yes, I agree with all of this! Thank you OriolesMagicPlease for explaining exactly what I was thinking in such concise and articulate terms. I think we all are on the same page now more or less, we’ll root for whoever is our behind center the rest of the year and hope for the best as far as where Joe ends up if and when the team moves on from him.

Now here’s an interesting question : if you could only choose one to go, who would you choose : Harbaugh or Flacco?

I appreciate both for what they’ve done but I feel like Joe would be in a better position to continue to contribute positively in the future than John can. I love John as a person but I think we need new leadership.

how long would Joe have to be here with the new coach. If he can just be here for one year, then I'd say Harbaugh.

I appreciate both for what they have done as well. The players still play for Harbaugh and he is respected in Baltimore and around the league for being a very good coach. Too often we don't use rookies when they are better then the player in front of them, too often the player behind him isn't getting enough playing time then the veteran and in many instances they are playing out of position. We don't know everything that is going into that decision, for sure, but it happens over and over again.

I'm also not a fan of Harbaugh's offensive coordinator hires and would really like an offensive minded to run the team. One that can take advantage of Lamar's gifts. I would be ok with a defensive coach also, as long as we hired a creative offensive coordinator that can take advantage of Lamar's gifts. However the problem with that comes when we lose the OC to another team. I'd rather have to replace a defensive coach then an offensive coach. I'd rather the QB learn one system and not have to relearn systems over and over again. Every coach has differences in verbiage, even if its from one version of the WCO to another. .

Anyway in my opinion, Harbaugh's message is getting stale, good coach or not, and his message needs to be changed because the franchise has been stuck in the mud the last several season. I wish him success wherever he goes. That goes for Joe as well.

So without further adieu, my answer is replace Harbaugh and keep Flacco if I had to make a choice. Flacco can still be replaced later with Lamar Jackson.
