Joe Flacco

He look good today made some plays like the play where he stumbled in the pocket and got up and tossed that ball to maclin he was stepping up in the pocket and NOT THROWING OFF HIS BACK FOOT it looked like the Joe of old and anyone who says him not having a TD makes this a bad performance didn’t watch the game we got the ball inside the 5 most scoring drives and let the backs do the work and Watson dropped a beautiful pass in the end zone a hard catch but one he should’ve made

And also I’d like to know how long that second deep throw to Wallace was cause people are saying he should’ve got some more air on it I could be wrong but I believe that throw he was under pressure and just zinged it without stepping into it and it was a bomb idk too many QBs who would’ve made that throw without being able to step into it

I think not having the preseason affected Joe a lot more than anyone realized. Joe Flacco looked terrible early in the season but I would say he got better today and that's not saying a lot because the OAK defense isn't that good. I'll wait until next week to say he's started to turn the corner because I've seen this movie before and it hasn't always turned out well. Still, I'm hoping he is finally finding his rhythm because this guy needs to earn his paycheck. He is holding this team back.

Not even a small bite?

Maybe! Let me watch the game tomorrow morning and then I'll come back and give my thoughts on it.

I've seen that movie as well so I'm with you, I'll hold out until he strings these games together. I will say this, seeing the big plays did give me some encouragement, also seeing Maclin getting involved and Perriman making a few catches was a good thing to see. It's just those types of things we didn't see in the season that can get me a bit optimistic for his progression going forward. I will hold back until he does it consecutively before believing that he's turned the corner.

I mean when I say that, I'm being nit picky. It was a good throw , I just pointed out that had he managed to get more air on it Wallace would have walked it in.

That being said , he definitely stepped into that throw and had time to throw it , he didn't have anyone in his face, someone swiped his legs maybe a second after they ball left his hands but I doubt he noticed them much before he threw it.

Again, not saying it was a bad throw. It was a good throw. But a little more air and it is a great throw.

Now I will say this, I'm not overly concerned about him scoring touchdowns - yet. I firmly believe that establishing the run game in the end zone sets up passing touchdowns down the road. It's a lot easier to score 10 or more yards out throwing than it is within 5 or less like we consistently were today.

I'd rather see no picks every week than touchdowns through the air every week. But if we keep establishing the run , especially as a scoring threat it'll open up passing touchdowns in the weeks ahead.

Flacco played smart, and calmed down and trusted his line to give him time, he didn't just check it down before the plays had time to develop. I'll hold off being comfortable and secure in his playing until we see consistency, but I'm also glad to call it like I see it and this was a classic , gritty and efficient Joe Flacco Sunday, something we used to see more often.

Joe used to have games like this on consistent basis is the problem. Game where despite not having flashy stats , he helped give his team the W , contributing zero or just occasional turnovers, great game management, and a downfield passing presence. That's the Joe Flacco formula. I've never liked Joe as a throw the ball 40 times , dink and dunk quarterback. It's not his game, and I don't mean that as a knock. Some call him slow or dumb but I think that's the lazy answer.

He actually historically excells in an up tempo two minute or hurry up offense play style , but we've just never been built as an offense to play that way all game or every game. I think it's more about his release , and ball placement. To play the short passing game you have to release the ball quickly and put the ball in very specific spots to lead your receiver in the direction you want them to go. You also have to have tons of play calls designed to get receivers open in space.

It's clear though that he can read defenses , but modern NFL defenses are good at hiding what they're doing. You also have to be completely on the same page as your receivers to know they are reading the defense the same way you are. The advantage of up tempo is that it simplifies the process - most of the time the same personell are staying out , and you get more time to read the defense because you're up at the line quicker and not having to take as much time identifying who's out there.

Despite it being a passing league, most successful offenses have an established rushing attack, you just have to have it 90% of the time unless your on Brady's level or close to it but even Brady relies on the run more than some realize.

Anyways, this long rant isn't me trying to say Joe hasn't played like shit so far this season. Heck, he's played like shit this season and most of the past two seasons , he had good games mixed in last season but ultimately I didn't like what I saw. 2009-2014 Joe though was always fine by me and easily defended, yes 2013 was a bad year but those happen. We also had injuries and a lot of dismantling of the offense that year coming right off the Super Bowl win so we had that to deal with as well. Honestly Marc Trestman was a mistake, he ruined our offense and it's taken a while to undo the damage he caused. Jury is still out on Marty but he's a heck of a lot better so far by my book. And I think he's beginning to understand the Joe Flacco formula - let Joe throw down the field , take his shots and then work in the short and intermediate pass plays in tandem with an effective running game. If Joe is in form he's still good for a couple stinkers a year, but he also would usually have two or more games where he would straight go off, and he always played well in the playoffs because his play just didn't dip because the stakes didn't phase him while everyone else for the most part was. Joe isn't intimidated by playing in New England or Pittsburgh.

We will see what happens. Was this a turning point? Maybe. I hope so. Maybe a return to what worked, to original 2009-2014 Joe Flacco. That guy, I would go to war defending him and many times I did. Haven't seen him in a while but yesterday , he might have been resurrected.

I’m genuinely excited after all your comments last week lol

Well, I'm the type of Ravens fan that speaks my truth regardless of how others think or feel about it. Last week my smoking assessment of Flacco's game play warranted that type of critique and scolding. However @RavensFan419, I also have no problem giving the man props when I feel he deserves it. I've only watched a few moments of the game so far but I must admit that FLACCO played and "looked" like a franchise QB. As Flacco goes....the offense goes! Flacco played very well and now I just need him to keep it up!

GREAT JOB JOE! :clap::party::clap::party:

Hey I respect that everyone had there opinion as I said last week I was hanging by the fingertips about to turn on Joe I’d like to see more of what we saw his week but man was it nice to see

great is being used to loosely imo.
please explain to me your definition of great? What more do you want from him just wondering we all know he’s no Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers... he made very crucial plays and set us up for success almost every drive he didn’t make any mistakes what more do you want?

i mean he missed 1 throw he should have made, he made a couple of poor decisions but apart from those 2 drives at the beginning of the 3rd quarter flacco took what the defence gave him, made good decisions, made good throws, made things happen and then sat back and rode the run game to the finish

i dunno what more you want - id like the box score to look better but it didnt need to be

Agree.

He was accurate pretty much all day and had a TD pass dropped by Watson who normally catches though. His ball placement was mostly on all day. Yes the 2nd long pass to Wallace could have had more air under it, but it was still a good pass.

it could have, but he was also under pressure and still put that ball in a place where while its a more difficult catch, only his receiver is getting that ball

throw some TDs maybe?

dude has the highest cap hit in the NFL.
222 yards and no turnovers is good but that is about it when putting things in perspective.

just look at what rodgers did yesterday if you want to know what my definition of great is.

No other quarterback in NFL history is going to be as good as Aaron Rodgers so comparing to him is not fair....
