Oh.. He's been fucking horrible. No way around it...
But I am allowed to criticize everyone else too. Our offense is really a total shit show on every level. Our best players right now skill position wise are running backs who don't see the field at the same time. Ronnie Stanley is very good... But the rest of the line honestly leaves a lot to be desired. On the rare occasion that Flacco does throw an accurate pass, Wallace and Perriman drop it, and then Maclin gets hurt... Again. At times the running game is utterly nonexistent, and while the playcalling isn't as detrimental as some suggest... It's still pretty fucking bad.
Flacco deserves a significant portion of the blame. But that blame can also be passed around.
If we didn't have a great defense we'd be in the same boat as the Giants right now. Shit QB play, but the rest of that offense is also an utter shitshow due to injuries(Mcadoo and Harbaugh must be bffs) to the point where you can't do anything about it.
Even if Flacco started to play better, the offense would have significant issues.
My stance is simple. Build the skeleton of the offense this offseason. A rookie QB is not the answer this offseason, he'd get massacred(unless we got Rosen.. Who has nothing to work with in college himself and is used to cleaning up after his defense's mistakes). Get Oline, WRs, RBs. If Flacco continues to play like shit next season(I mean, we are stuck with him anyway thanks to his contract) then you go find his fucking replacement and sell the farm for a QB next offseason.
Well said people think this team will magically turn around and become the top offense in the league because of a rookie coming in and that's not the case. Watson was lucky to have a solid RB in Miller, a top 5 WR in Hopkins, and Fuller who is becoming one of the best deep threats in the league.
Even Carson Wentz and Jared Goofball struggled their rookie years due to lack of talent around them. Eagles went out and got Blount, Ajayi, Jeffery, Torrey Smith. Rams went and got Woods, Watkins, and drafted the most talented running back to come out of a draft in a long time in Gurley.
Flacco is getting older and regressing but that is the offense as a whole. His starting TE is 36 and while Watson has flashy plays every once in awhile and has good hands he isn't consistent. Wallace struggles with drops and sometimes getting open. Maclin has struggled to get open at times as well but his upside is there. Perriman got open a few times last night but that doesn't correct his poor play all season. Their starting running back was a guy they picked up right before the season that was cut from the Seahawks and while he has been a great surprise in how well he has been playing, the offensive line after Yanda got injured hasn't been the same. I would rather have Yanda than Howard, Hurst, and Skura combined and just have 3 offensive linemen. They have overperformed from what everyone thought they would do but still should be illegal how many times Collins gets hit in the backfield 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage.
The team has invested a bunch of money into the defense and as they should they have a bunch of young players in their prime playing well that will help the team down the road more. If anyone puts all the blame on Flacco you are foolish, and if you think none of it is on Flacco, you are also foolish. The team needs to invest in offense and that is hard when the league is shifting to a more offensive approach rather than defense that better defensive players fall in the draft to us rather than offensive ones.
If the team really wants to go to that west coast, throw screens 5/6 plays bullshit they should go out and get a new QB and better receivers. I am tired of seeing the team try throwing a screen to Wallace once or twice a game and he gets tackled immediately in the backfield. Nobody on this offense outside of Woodhead, Maclin, and Campanaro (who was a healthy scratch) fits this offense. It seems like this team wants to go one way with this offense, but does not have the personnel to fit that type of offense.
