Joe Flacco

I really hope Flacco is not the starting quarterback in 2019. I really don't have much more to say. It's really time to move on.

2 questions. Is there any chance whatsoever that Lamar Jackson takes the first snap week 1 if joe is healthy? Second, if after 4 games, the offense is not getting it done, do we pull a Prescott and just say this is Lamar's team now and just commit?

Certain variables. Depends on moves made by the team. Wouldn't mind 2 more years while adjustments are made and players are brought in. The good thing is I see the team going all in in the next 5 years.

1] No
2] Unfortunately, No

The team should take its time with Jackson and wait until he's fully ready before playing him, however, they should not be taking their time with getting rid of Flacco. If Flacco doesn't produce this season then it's time to see him off, point blank period. If Jackson still isn't ready for next year then we can just give RG3 the reigns in the interim and start implementing our new RPO-style offense anyway.

if that is what you want to believe then go ahead.
it aint my words nor believes so

The Ravens have put bare minimum in and shockingly have gotten bare mininum out.

anything that supports this myth?

i actually analysed the ravens picking of skill players (and offensive players since the ravens offered flacco a contract - i.e. when they realised he was a franchise qb) and I posted it on this forum (twice i think)

but i shall make it third time lucky:

"since 2012 we have drafted only 4 skill position players in the first 2 days of a draft - of the 20 picks we've made as an organisation since we started trying to negotiate flacco's contract we have only spent 4 on giving him weapons: perriman who was a 1st round pick but has so far shown nothing, maxx who was a 2nd round pick who has been a good run blocker but has added no value to the passing game, crockett gillmore who was an ok run blocker but didnt develop into the pass catcher we hoped he could and bernard pierce who had a good rookie season as a change of pace back and then proceeded to never show anything again...

so not only is it the misses that are dragging the team down, tbh its the lack of attempts to find playmakers at skill positions that is pulling the team down - those picks would have been fine if we could find a couple more picks to spend on playmakers and improve the odds of finding a guy or 2 who would stick around and be helpful to joe for at least their whole rookie contract - the odds are stacked against any of these guys getting 2nd contracts (in fact the best bet is gillmore who is converting to tackle anyway)

and its not like we've spent capital on protecting him either... only 2 day 2 or higher picks have been spent on protecting him too... both have been great pickups but they were picked so far apart that they never even played together: stanley who looks like our franchise left tackle of the future and Kelechi Osemele who played so well he priced himself out of baltimore and is probably the best left guard in the league

but the overall issue is still a problem - less than a third of the day 2 (or higher) picks have been spent on offence despite the fact that we are paying a franchise qb and it would seem obvious that we would want to put that franchise qb in a position to win and maximise his talent...

this team just needs to take more shots on offensive players in the draft and obviously im ignoring contributions from day 3 players which you could argue is a bit disingenuous but also points to a lack of concerted efforts to invest - my point isnt that we havent drafted good players its that we havent taken enough shots on offensive players (and most dramatically skill position players) to expect flacco to ever have the tools to succeed around him given how much of a crapshoot the draft is"

do you understand why?

Why what?

you need to understand why they havent taken more shots in order to analyse properly and thus come up with a solution.

just saying they have to take more shots is pretty much the reasoning of lil kid quite frankly.

there are more ways then the draft to add players to the team.
when ones uses those ways it can affect the way one approaches the draft.

there is also the consideration of where one is drafting.
every prospect has a certain value tied to them and thus has a projection on where they are going to be drafted.

you are also not the only team drafting thus you are pretty much at the mercy of others team in the hopes of having the player you want drop to you.

you can sell the house and trade up which is a bad strategy.
you can also reach and take players not worth the pick which is also a bad strategy.

you can trade down and risk losing out.
you can stay put and get beaten by other team crazy enough to do just that.

passing on a better player is just dumb especially if its one at a position of need.

you where spot on when you said you where ignoring a lot of things......

They’re going to have to if we have a decent qb on a rookie salary, it just allows teams to invest in other areas. I feel like the NFL is sooner rather than later going to take the same route as the NBA when it comes to managing players. Blow up the team to clear cap space, draft well and have them under rookie contracts, and bring in a superstar free agent along with serviceable ones, similar to what the Eagles just did

lets see how lamar looks in camp and preseason before giving him the starting job. flacco is a good qb and now he has some better weapons to work with as long as they stay healthy. i personally believe he will have an outstanding season

I mean pitts with the wr1 in the league have just drafted back to back wrs in rounds 2.

Atl with probably the second best wr and a very good supporting cast just drafted Ridley.

Some players we didnt draft that jump straight out...

Ridley/moore
Juju
That 2014 draft not picking one wr

Its just clear they value defense over offense. And that would be ok if our defense was better than it is.

I just hope they don't treat offense the same way for jackson as they did for flacco or were in trouble

During season its “ he a top player at his pos.. pff says so. we have us a great player here .”

end of season when that same player leaves the team “ oh we dont need him. He can easily be replaced. He cant stay healthy, he cant block, his injuries slowed him down. He sucks vs the run, so and so made him look good”. These be the funniest comments ever to me
