Dean Pees 2017

You know, it's weird. People get upset because Harbaugh is all rosy, but Pees calls someone out and people get upset.

What do people want?

I didn't pick up on that.
Interesting observation.
Some Raven fans will never be happy.

Remember the ones that would bitch and complain after a win?
A win for crying out loud.

Personally, I don't mind if a coach calls a player out for poor play. If they play poorly when you're paid millions to play the game, you should be called out. I'm not a massive fan of the rosy attitude.

But you are correct that some fans will never be happy, at all.

I don't have a problem with players being called out, but it should be behind closed doors. That is the right thing to do.

All he said was that the players didn't execute. What's wrong with that? We all know they didn't. Maybe he could've said "The Patriots are a great football team and played a better game" but is that really all that better?

Why does it make a difference if it's to the media or not? Millions of people saw the game.
Exactly. For Christ's sake, we all know what happened. We saw them give up two 14 point leads. We knew they played like trash. Are we going to forget that if Pees doesn't trash them? Would we have forgotten that if Pees painted a rosy picture? Nah, dude. I mean, shit, giving up two 14 point leads? They deserved to get trashed after that. Pees was asked a simple question and he answered it: players didn't execute. The hell is he supposed to say? I'm surprised he didn't lay all the blame at Rashaan Melvin for getting abused all game.

Personally, I really don't care what a coach says in a presser. Is he being rosy? Who cares? Is he trashing the team? Who cares? Either way people make it out to be a big deal, and it never is.

Actually I don't have a problem with a coach saying that the players didn't execute, it's when they call out a specific player I'm not a fan of. The reason for this is that it is a team game and a loss in a game can't be pinned on one player. I want to emphasize that Pees didn't do this, but I've heard coaches in the past due this and they could have done it better.

I remember this conversation back from long ago. I never thought Pees was a problem but I wasn't his biggest fan because I wanted to dump him for Wade Phillips when he became available and I'm still a bit salty we didn't get him. I said it before but the problem Pees had was two fold: safety play and complexity.

I don't think it's a surprise we did much better with his scheme last year when he had a competent safety back there. I think he absolutely needs a very good safety on the backend due to the complexity of his scheme and due to the amount of responsibility he gives players. I recall last year the players saying something about his scheme being easier or something but I don't have a source anymore on that. I just know I remember reading it somewhere.

Yes, I also remember them saying the scheme was easier. Not sure what changed because we actually showed a lot more looks, new packages, and newish formations, but hey, they said it was easier. Maybe the terminology changed? I dunno.

Perhaps, but something definitely changed and we looked a lot better so I won't complain and it's nice to have continuity on defense and not worry about losing your coordinator every year

That all deals with having different expectations. So, while I will definitely take the "W" in this league....I'm always concerned with "how" we won not just "that" we won. Cause all of that piss poor game play WILL catch up with you. Sooner or later! And most, times, it shows up at the most inopportune time.
