that would probably be it wouldnt it - maybe if georgia win the SEC title that opens the door for bama maybe because auburn would have 3 losses (and thats definitely too many)

Let's say the top 4 is this:
1. Clemson
2. Oklahoma
3. Auburn
4. Wisconsin
If Clemson loses to Miami, then Miami is for sure in. I have no idea where TCU will be ranked so I don't know about that one. If Auburn loses to Georgia, Georgia is definitely in. If Wisconsin loses to Ohio State, then I wonder if Committee would consider leapfrogging Ohio St over the others. $$$ is definitely a factor too.
Idk man, I don't see how Bama can get in if it's revealed that they're on the outside looking in. Looking at the schedule, they don't play anyone so defintely doesn't bode well for them. This past weekend was the worst time they could lose a game.

Tennessee had to pull out of Schiano hire after the outrage and protests due to Schiano's connection to Sandusky era at Penn State:

i mean that wont be the reason they stopped the move because if it is then they dont deserve to be hiring given that that means they wouldnt have been aware of it before which means they arent doing their job - it would have meant they did zero research on the guy they were hiring
which means its the fan outrage that has changed the decision - which means they dont deserve to be hiring given that that means they have zero conviction in their decisions or resolve that their decision is right

It was a bad decision from a get go. I don't know how Urban and Ohio State are getting away with it for two years now.
Schiano never said anything at the time and he definitely had to knew something.
i was just talking about the process in general and dont really know about the situation at all
but if its the case that that really happened then it should be a sackable offence to just consider hiring him
how can this guy be allowed back in a college around kids given that he's shown criminal amounts of negligence in terms of their safeguarding
and how can anyone consider hiring him to work with kids?

I guess nobody can prove he knew. But yes, I agree 100%. He should be out of any coaching job.
yeah but as someone hiring for a college position you cant take that risk - your duty has to be safeguarding the guys he'll be working with etc.
if there's even a modicum of doubt then he cant be hired...
much like the nfl, but for different reasons, they have to hold their employees to a higher standard of squeaky clean...

Was there actual proof Schiano knew what was happening and actually covered it up? It's getting very scary in this country where players can be suspended from the NFL if a girl makes up a domestic violence case on a guy(Elliott just got suspended for a girl making up DV in order to ruin him) and that a Head Coach can lose his job just for being connected to Sandusky and not actually being involved. It's like if you knew your friend robbed a bank, and because he's your friend you can get arrested for having a connection with him.
If I'm a player getting recruited by Tennessee in the future, I'm going to say no because I don't want to play for fans who don't get their way. They are just upset Jon Gruden didn't want to coach there and are taking it out on Schiano.
i just wikipediaed it (obviously not entirely reliable) but there seems to have been some testimony in court about schiano knowing/witnessing the abuse
and that's not necessarily enough to charge him in a court of law but honestly im not sure that's good enough if you're hiring him to work with young people - there's a higher level of "clean" at that level
i think it also has to be said that sandusky likely required some form of collusion/implicit complicity from people around him who enabled him through negligence - not saying that was schiano but it was someone certainly...
and if there's a slight possibility it could be him then as an employer i cant risk it - the fact they nearly did is more crazy to me than the job offer being pulled

I am positive many people from that time knew, just chose to stay quiet for their own interest. Whether it can be proven, I don't know but as @rossihunter2 said - the flag is so red that even a thought shouldn't be given about hiring such a person.
yeah im afraid that its one of those guilty by association until proven innocent - its kinda like the catholic church in boston after everything came out...

I agree it should be a big red flag but considering over 20 years ago he was last at Penn State(1995), what took so long for all this backlash to come out when he was hired at his previous coaching jobs. Sandusky was going being investigated for incidents taking place from 1994 - 2009. Schiano was only there for 2 of the first two years it was happening before heading off to be a defensive coach for the Bears in 1996. Returned to college in 1999 with Miami before taking the Rutgers job for 10 years from 2001-2011. Then hired to be the Bucs Head Coach for two years, before landing at Ohio State.
If he was only there the first two years it was happening, he may have not known since I'm sure Jerry wouldn't tell a new coach about it not knowing Greg that well to see if he could keep it a secret. It's going to be interesting to see who they hire now.

Court documents with the mentioned testimony were only released in 2016.
oh the backlash likely has nothing to do with sandusky (its just an excuse to get the athletic directors to not sign him) - although from what ive read the incidents predate 1994 by quite some way (but he was only charged from 1994 onwards)
for me he would never have been rehired but note that the scandal only broke in 2011 which means that no one hiring would have known about the scandal and his alleged role in covering it up (outside of penn state) until after - the first teams that i have a problem with him being hired for are ohio state onwards - they're the only team since the scandal broke and went to trial that he was hired for...

I thought as much. Whoever wins will have bigger arguments for being in the top 4 than Alabama who didn't make it to a Championship game. It was definitely the wrong time to lose a game.

If Alabama don't make it, how much you bet they will try to expand the playoffs to 6 teams to ensure Bama gets in every year lol. Now realistically with players starting to skip bowl games, I don't see Bowl Games being around much longer. I could see a college football playoff expansion in the future and less bowl games.
i mean given how they've ranked it, there cant really be that much of a fix given that they've given bama no way to get into the top 4 - they might as well have ranked them lower than the top 6 because they are pretty much officially out of the playoffs at this point
