The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Week 1 Edition

How could you even tell? Did you think he handed the ball off too slowly or something?
Looked off when throwing to receivers. Balls were low and unwatchable usually. Didn't step into throws. His interception was high and behind to West. Not his best game.

The Great: The Defense

The Good: Running Game and Offensive Line.

The Bad: Jensen's penalties.

Of course it's not bad! just saying they still need to take it up a notch because they are playing far more tougher O lines. Tim Williams will be active next week :)
Ok I'll agree there. But also a better OL yet far less weapons on offense, it should be a wash and we should still snag quite a few balls, also less talent at rb. They have a legit scary trio

Who didn't enjoy this game? It was exactly what we wanted to be. Defense did gave up some plays that went further than they should have, but we did the plays when they needed to be made and offense did enough to put up points, capitalize on good field position and eat the clock and the energy from the Bengals.

Now we need to see our rookies developp and bring their support to become even better.
It was so enjoyable to lead from start to finish and up three scores in the second half. I forgot how nice it is to watch Ravens football without my blood pressure so damn high.

That was encouraging first up showing for our D, secondary in particular. They are the reason our pass rush had time to develop but kudos to D line / rushers on the good job, too. They'll now need to pick it up against the Cleveland O line.

I like that we were able to eat a lot of time by running the ball but our running game needs a lot of improvement. West is OK, Allen not so much and I hate the fact that we didn't have anybody to at least try to do what Woodhead was doing. Also, we had a lot of help from refs on two pretty soft defensive flags in 3rd quarter on that long drive. Both on 3rd down.

All in all, big win for us - let's just hope we can improve and get some more Ws in next few weeks.

5 of 6 when woodhead was in. 4 of 11 thereafter. One was a pick and 1 an interception.

Not entirely sure what people expected for his first game with no preseason

Ronnie struggled with lawson today. Hope stanley is just shaking off the rust/injury because he didn't look too awesome out there. Jensen was good aside from his stupid penalites. Howard was really good today1

I didn't expect much, honestly. I thought he'd actually throw more than he did, but I wasn't expecting 400 yards and 4 touchdowns like I saw one person predict.

Good
1)The game was a joy to watch.
2)ILB's- Correa showed positive signs. Mosley is Mosley. Terrific drive stopping play early by Peanut on key possession.
3) Pierce is a better piece than Brandon Williams ( maybe not "good" as it concerns Williams
4) offensive game plan (post Flacco interception) in the second half was entirely appropriate.
5) A nearly ten minute third quarter drive
6) West ran really hard...loved the goal line conversion
7) defensive players feed off one another's success
Bad
1) Buck Allen, while being quite good in space is nowhere close to a put the game away in the fourth quarter type of back.
2) Jensen called for holding three times
3) Joe was not good. Is prone to haphazardly throwing ball up with pressure in his face. Looked very much the same as in 2016 in the pocket and I'm a little concerned every time he drops back on third downs.
Delay of game penalties inside our twenty?
4) Offense will need to be close to perfect in terms of penalties, turnovers going forward
I'd like to see Campanaro take on a sort of Danny Woodhead role on third downs....we need another back.

Concerned about Z. Smith.

I was hoping for maybe 25 or so with a few deep shots to see if he was stepping in. The first drive he just worked them over with quick short passes.

There clearly wasn't any rhythm with anyone but woodhead which is a bummer causs if he's pulled that hammy again it could be a couple months before he's back.

Hopefully can build it up a bit next week. Glad he got absolutely smashed once and got up ok!

I think the thing that really stood out to me the most, in addition to not shying from pressure, was that Joe wasn't throwing off his back foot. He really wasn't stepping into his throws or driving them, but he's at least making progress back to better mechanics.

Woodhead looked excellent before injury. Maybe we get back mizell if his injury is serious? other than suggs, no 1 else got pressure.. flacco didnt look so good. Rusty or not he was making terrible reads.

The Good: Defense, not much I have to add, this unit was amazing.

The Bad: Rust that Joe has to knock off. It's concerning but I personally think he improves tremendously as the season goes on.

The Ugly: Injuries to Woodhead and Za'Darius. Both were having really good games early on.

Pierce, Williams, Jefferson, Judon, and Smith before his injury all generated pressure.

I posted an article with the same name up in the news section. A bit more analysis in there if anyone wants to see my in depth thoughts.

That is an insane run to pass ratio that will lose us games against the better teams and even some of the not so better teams.
on the positive, the more teams game plan to stop our "run game" the more freedom we have to pass.

That said our run game I think is actually the weak point on our offense. We don't have a Ray Rice or a Jamal Lewis who were just so dangerous and lethal.

Our offence had zero in the "Ooooooh Ahhhhhhhh" department. But up by twenty who give a rats ass about ooooh and ahhhh?
People have been clamoring for years about a run first offense. Well this is a run first ( and often ) offense. Too much? Today I don't think so. We didn't need to give them any opportunities to get into this game. Of course this game plan won't be for all games because it won't match up for all opponents. One game does not make a season. If it did, 15 more shutouts won't hurt MY feelings.

Is it just me or does the dislike button feel like the most passive aggressive button on the boards?
