Quarterback thread

this is gonna be the first year in a while where i rank the qbs on my big board with the other players as opposed to on their own big board which means im gonna have to deep dive into all the offensive prospects but the little ive seen of mason rudolph at this point suggests to me that the senior bowl is gonna be huge for him because he doesnt have great arm talent and his offence doesnt ask him to do much - he's gonna have to impress coaches with his iq and mentality - for me that smacks of a 4th/late 3rd round type qb who might get reached on but id be stunned if rudolph was taken in the 1st round at this point but of course i havent watched much film yet and i imagine my impressions will change a lot during the offseason - likewise evaluating baker mayfield is gonna be interesting too
I think his accuracy and timing are superb. He looks pretty confortable in the pocket and has a quick release, and he looks like he can go through progressions. That's more than a 4th rounder in my eyes. I'm on board to say the SB is where I'll make my evaluation. We know he has an average arm, what I want to know is how much his system and his group of receivers bail him out. That's exactly what we'll see at the SB where he'll have to execute from a pro style offense with WR that won't dominate Big 12 DBs.

and this is why at present he's a 3rd/4th rounder for me - he's playing against awful defences with a great offensive system around him that's built for him to succeed and put up video game numbers

Mason Rudolph has a combination of downsides that are crippling in the NFL. He stares down receivers and leaves too much hang time on the ball, he will get picked off a lot. I like his pocket presence, he's got active feet and seems to have awareness of his surroundings but he also hasn't had to buy much time and has generally had a clean pocket at the time of release so that skillset hasn't been tested much.

Honestly I'm not a fan of Rudolph, and if we spent any higher than a 4th on him I'd be pissed. I'd even take Lamar Jackson over him and I hate run first qbs simply because he has more arm talent.

There's interesting local boy I'm sure the Ravens have their eye on. Watch Kurt Benkert, Virginia. I like what I see.

There has been times where he's stared down and that led to INT, but he doesn't always. They all do it at the collegiate level. He's also he can take the time to work through his progressions and unlike you I've seen him deliver in the face of pressure. Also, maybe that's what you call hang time but I love his touch on the deep ball.
Now careful, I don't want to make it sound like he's my guy or anything, but I must say I think he's fun to watch.

On deep balls he constantly makes his man slow up. Way too high arcing. He does have a good touch ball in the intermediate but I'm talking about his deep strikes hanging in the air forever, it's amazing that he's been so statistically good on deep balls because he throws a deep ball that should get defended 100% of the time at the next level

I see it as him guiding his receivers and giving them time to adjust. Something Flacco completely forgot to do all season long.

he plays in a conference that forgets you're allowed to have a defence and defenders - that's how

that was a really good looking tape. great pocket awareness and feet and sliding, good timing, seemed to have active eyes, patience, etc. and seems to have the arm talent.

what round is he projected?

I have no clue, nobody's talking about Benkert. I watched bits and pieces of that Miami game and was really impressed. Found some other stuff after that and I must say, he has a lot going on for him. Really talented player.

Right now 3rd/4th, but he's more like that sleeper that people start saying "hey guys look at this QB, he looks good", so I wouldn't be shocked to see some hype grow and his stock get to that 2nd round.

From what I've seen so far, smart teams might pick him and Stidham in the 20s

I have to admit I love Stidham, but top20? That's bold. He's clearly not ready to start, he'll need a lot of seasoning.
Not top 20, in twenties.
Unless some obvious top talent drops for whatever reason, there's no better investment than talented QB. Particularly for a team like us, not able to do anything about the high cap hit. Get new OC and young QB, start installing offense. By the time OC is fed up with Joe's subpar play, young dude will have learned a good portion of a playbook and is ready to jump in.

So that should be around week 3 of next year then
