The OL Thread

This shouldn't even be a question
I have a feeling one of the two is going to be there. I don't think it's going to be Mike either. Don't get me wrong, I wholeheartedly agree that Nelson is the better prospect, but I think the Bengals take Mike no questions asked. They can't afford to have more olinemen get beaten like a drum from the edges. There's a possibility the niners take nelson, but I see them going for Ridley.. Or anyone. That team's talent level as a whole is lacking.

We need to take multiple olinemen this draft though. Seriously. We overperformed and are in need of a LG and a RT

Barring Ridley, Sutton, or Nelson being there at 16, I want to trade down for Pryce or Orlando Brown if he's sliding, and use the extra pick to stock up on skill position players. Or the extra pick to trade up in the 2nd for someone like Miller, Auden Tate, or one of the top TEs.

@Sledge Hammer Youn made a comment about Wynn, but I’m commenting in the OL thread.
Isaah Wynn, Georgia: Lacks ideal size. Only 6'3. But Wynn is a mauler. He has that nasty streak you want out of an OL. And he may be the best run blocker at the position in this draft. May transition to G in the NFL. (round 2/3)

Wynn is my favorite lineman in this draft. One of my favorite players. I would even be happy with him at pick 16.

Go read the article I wrote on Nelson. It’s in the News section.

I wanted to say next to Nelson Wynn is my favorite. But outside of trading up Nelson is not realistic. Most amazing thing about Nelson is how he generates power. I looked for any breakdown in his power and there wasn’t any. He is hypothetically David Decastro on megadose steroids!!

Imagine a scenario we kept osemele. Then trade up for Nelson. The Oline could realistically front Stanley Nelson Jensen Yanda Osemele. lol

Would be the single greatest offensive line of all time. But we’d have no offense because all our money went to Osemele lol

I did an article on Nelson in the news thread during the season. Broke down some film and embedded them in the article. Ridiculous to bring up the scenario with Osemele, would have been ridiculous to pay him what he got anyway. We would have absolutely no room under the cap now. Would have been over the cap last yr

Btw, for Osemele, he didn’t have a good yr. Definitely dropped off from his last couple yrs.

Everybody on raiders didn’t play to par. Maybe it’s the move distracting?? And Osemele didn’t get much more than the top guards that are making about $10mil per like Kyle long. And Zeitler is getting the same. And every top shelf guard will get similar contracts here on. Jensen will get roughly $9mil per. 4 yrs $40mil. Maybe 5 yrs $45milliin. I agree Wagner is not good enough to pay him what the lions did. Hasn’t looked great since the Kubiak year. And Williams doesn’t justify his contract. I would pay $60mil to an elite guard b4 an above average defensive tackle. Coulda replaced him with DJ Jones or Ogunjobi.

Osemele got 12m per season, he was paid like a LT

5 yrs 58m, 25m guaranteed. Average of 11.7m

Zeitler did get the same but a year later and from a team with shitloads of cap space. He also received it a yr later. Cleveland had to use up a certain amount of cap space to get to the floor. We didn’t have the money. Not even close in the 2016 offseason, nor should we have paid a guy with a history of back injuries that much money. He’s not better than Yanda. Younger yes, but not better.

Every top shelf guard isn’t getting a similar contract, not even close, since Osemele paged the way. He was the highest paid player at his position in 2016.

That is my point. 1.7 mil more than what guards were getting. Not all that much extra $
It is when you look at the amount of guaranteed money. Difference of more than 8m. That’s not small change with someone who missed many games with a back injury. Besides our OL was better than their oline. Let’s not use the move as an excuse as we have a couple yrs at that point.

But it’s fine to pay nearly $10mil per for a scrub safety?? And about same to Williams who doesn’t dominate nor touch the web and comes at a dime a dozen for space eaters. I understand not paying him cuz the cap situation management created. But I Wouk did never say he want worth the $
