The OL Thread

wynn is becoming my favorite option at 16 after ridley. i believe he could play RT at the next level in the event we have to replace howard, i think hed be a better option than eluemenor or hurst, while hurst could stay at LG given hes retained.

but the main reason is this, i think OL is a really underrated need due to our line overachieving last year. they looked decent, even excellent at times, romans scheme brought out their best, made use of mobile guys, made use of wall-off blockers, got guys in the second level, it looked good. BUT, we are underrating the strong possibility of losing jensen, along with hurst. jensen was one of the best centers in the league, hurst was damn solid at LG last year, other than that we have little goose who may never play again, and eluemenor who was absolutely dreadful, austin howard was average but a well played stopgap by our FO, but we need to either upgrade from him or get another guy to play at the same level, if he goes then we could end up with a dreadful RT.

we could potentially be looking at a returning line of stanley and yanda and lewis, with yanda getting old and returning from injury, and lewis being a potential liability and likely no more than average player, with guys like eluemenor, siragusa, and camp bodies to fill the blanks inbetween. our OL was solid last year, but goddamn if things dont look bleak when you look deeply into it.

wynn being an elite interior prospect and solid RT prospect, is an obvious pick, and a safe one. we know for a fact were gonna upgrade from last years starting lineup somewhere, and even better we can avoid disaster if a starter leaves.

With all this Zeus jr talk, I would feel much better if we select Wynn over Zeus with the 16.

Currently my board for us is...
1. Ridley
2. James
3. Trade back for wynn
4. Trade back for price
5. Trade back for guice
6. Stay put at 16 and follow same order as 3-5

What is the deal with Howard? For some reason I was under the impression that his release was simply a matter of formality but If not misinformed I believe his release only relieves the cap slightly. In fact, It would be more advantageous to release waller, cap-wise.

I would be rather shocked if we draft Wynn which is a heartbreak for me.
If we draft:
Wynn
?
Ragnow....This offense is vastly improved pretty immediately, an identity is forged, and our offense becomes a strength for years. I like our playoff chances with these two on the interior and I like the security it provides in future drafts.
I'm convinced this is the way forward given the strength's of this draft class.

i think he has an option to release him if im not mistaken in the same way that we do with brandon carr too (i imagine that decision has to be made before the start of the league year...)

I don't think ragnow is as good as you think he is lol

$3 mil. savings releasing him but I’m not so sure they do. He provides valuable depth that you may not be able to replace for those $. We’ll see, maybe there’s a different plan........could also hinge on what happens with Hurst.

The one thing everyone has to admit is that he's a perfect fit here.
I'll agree there, simply because we MIGHT need a center and he could quite possibly be had in the third which is good value. I like how he moves in space and gets to his guy at the next level, the push he generates etc. but I don't think he's day one ready, his footwork needs a lot of work and he's gonna get beaten by lateral moves in the NFL if he doesn't improve there

I've learned over the last two years that we can get an OL ready for the season in an offseason. Skura, Lewis, Hurst... All weren't supposed to start and they did it an exceptional level.

what do you mean "where he left off" didnt he get injured before he was even really properly involved at all?
From Preston's report at the time , he was taking first team reps (with Lewis absent) and was really progressing in his sets and in pass pro.
