Fire Marty

Marty is going nowhere till Harbaugh is fired. Why are we wasting our breath? Steve Bisciotti won't fire Harbs and Harbs won't fire Marty. What can we do about it? The only thing fans can do is stop lining the Ravens pocket by not showing up for games and buying food and merchandise. It won't immediately bother the team, but over time they'll learn to listen closely to what fans are saying and wishing.

i dont know that i ever bought into that - people wanted trestman out and the offence got a little better but i think most people wanted marty gone in the offseason (albeit never mentioning alternatives to replace him)
 
Idk why people think Harbaugh won't allow Marty to be fired. Harbaugh defended Trestman a week or two before him getting fired. Frankly, it is more professional to deal with the shit work your team is doing behind closed doors. Or you turn into the Giants and have everyone calling out each other and that is counterproductive.

Why is he wasting bye week if he's thinking about getting rid of Marty?

In my opinion, they are giving Marty one last shot. His team is finally healthy throughout the bye week and they got one of their key signings in the offseason healthy in Woodhead. If the offense doesn't open up with all their weapons and start playing better I see an adjustment in 2 weeks.

Thinking back to Cam Cameron, the Ravens were averaging almost 350 yards per game while we are around 290 yards per game today. They didn't fire him until December 10th which was like 5-6 weeks after their bye week and they were still struggling. You can ask them the same thing. I think the Ravens squeak by the Packers and then the Ravens struggle and lose to the Texans the following week and they cut him loose. Ravens see if Roman can give the offense a spark in the final 5 weeks or whatever it is.

When I think back to Cam days, I remember that we just needed one more win to lock a playoffs spot.
If Marty's last shot over next 2 games doesn't work, we will be 4 and 7.

If the Ravens cannot win at least 1 of the next two games even with Marty holding the offense back they don't deserve to be in the playoffs period. They are given a golden opportunity against a Rodgersless Packers, which they are one of the teams with the least amount of talent in the league when Rodgers isn't playing. Then they are playing the Texans and Savage is holding their offense back as much as Marty is holding ours back.

It could very well be in one game. My point is I can see the team giving him one last chance with all the weapons possible while healthy. He has been terrible but this offense was lacking talent in the beginning and the team neglected taking an offensive player due to how the board fell in the draft. The main takeaway from what I am trying to say is nobody's job is safe. Harbaugh defended Trestman up until he got fired. Harbaugh will continue to defend his current OC until he gets fired. Those things need to be dealt with behind the scenes or more than the playcalling will be holding the team back. I.E. The Giants right now with players calling out McAdoo.
 
I think harbaugh know his time is coming. He don’t want to be known as a HC who fires his coordinators regularly. He already fired cam and trestman. If he gets a HC job somewhere else, would OCs want to come work for him if he fired 3 OCs mid season?

counteract that though with the other 2 coordinators getting head coaching jobs off the back of essentially 1 season as an OC - and that one of the guys he fired was in the building for the best part of 5 seasons

i dont think he's that bad and i dont think thats how the league views him

But what if the team is good enough and they just need chain off their hands? Why not find out before it's too late?

To be fair, one of those OCs is stacking shelves at Walmart and the other is coaching in Canada. We obviously don't know what might happen to Marty, but the other two clearly weren't up to it.

You have to look at his picks as a whole to rate his ability to pick a coaching staff (including the DCs and position coaches - and I do think that Cam was the right guy at the time but we held onto him for too long), but my point is that he won't exactly be building a reputation as a trigger-happy coach if he fires Marty so that shouldn't be a reason to hang onto the guy.

I actually remember quite a few people, myself included, dumbfounded why we hired him at all.

I don't get that idea from that quote in the least. Pitta is saying the SYSTEM is garbage, in a nice way. His statement is "It's difficult to play quarterback under those circumstances". He even says the offensive philosophy is the problem which falls on the OC.

Personally, here is what should happen but won't. Fire Marty, give Roman his shot with a promotion (temporary). Let Joe work with Roman, but hand this offense off to Joe. He's the captain on the field period. You'll see what you have with Roman and you'll know exactly where you stand with Joe. Or, you can do what this FO WILL do and has done for years, remain status quo and remain mediocre at best and garbage most of the time. Refusing to move forward into this century of football and continuing to ignore the offense in some attempt to relive glory days of defensive domination that really can't be gotten back on that same level.

The issue is Kubiak and Caldwell were HCs before. It wasn't like they showed such brilliance here that a coach took a chance.

They were always going to get a chance; it was just a matter of when.

The offense never looks different no matter what is done for it in terms of coaching changes, free agency, or the draft.

I'm not even sure if it's wise to invest in the offense. They're mediocre no matter what.

The offense wasn’t mediocre with Kubiak running it.
