The Running Game, The Passing Game and Dallas's Defence

I dnt disagree with you but those guys mentioned, are actually getting targets. Their Oc’s and qbs arent making them run full speed just for them to lose their stamina or for decoys. Nor are sending them on routes into double cvg .We can replace hollywood with julio and all of sudden we will see flaws in julio game. We know hollywood got game thats for sure, but do we or can we expect any wr to actually look good in our system?
He is doing some trash things regularly and it’s entirely not scheme related.

I know he’s got game but if you’re going to twitter and referring to yourself as an unused soulja, then your ass better not be leaving solid yards on the field to evade hits, playing slow and pussyfooting around, and dropping balls and not toe dragging, none of that is scheme related.

Now you def got a point here.. i forgot about the soulja shit lol.. yea f hollywood

idk what it is but I’ve been on hollywoods side this whole time - and I’m not out on him by any means

but the lack of effort to even attempt the toe drag on that play is the play by him that’s probably pissed me off most lol - more so than any of the drops even

I have not been very much on his side, but not unreasonably so, like I get that Lamar and Roman are both doing him dirty, but come on my guy... you have opportunities to be this stud that you claimed to be basically since spring, if it comes in limited opportunities then capitalize dammit. He just has too many moments where he’s doing some weak ass shit that I just find inexcusable lol.

still obviously hope he gets it together and finds his game and he and Lamar go on a streak, and I also don’t believe he’s that much of a diva and I really do think Roman is the biggest issue with Hollywood.

I love gus’ statlines, because he’s not averaging 14YPC by breaking one 60 yarder, nah he’s legit averaging 20yards when he gets the ball and every now and then he’ll gain 5-10 and hurt his average.

i guess i have the advantage that especially the first 7 weeks or so of the season i had the chance to watch the all-22 of every game and there were times where he'd pop off the all-22 and the play would go nowhere near him

i think partly the perception of his struggles come that he's had a few drops which you can see on the broadcast but a lot of his "good" work literally never gets seen because it happens beyond the broadcast angle

i still wish it could be better and it's obviously not all on roman and lamar either

as always it's never as good or as bad as, at first, it seems

you knew it was wild when lamar's scrambles actually brought the team rushing ypc down not up lol

Saw some cutups on twitter from the game on Tuesday and a couple of notes...

DJ Fluker is absolutely awful. Can't believe they continue to trot him out there. Missing blocks, so easy to disengage, and just downright being dominated. It's said that he's one of our "best" options. Casually crossing my fingers that Holden gets the call up and he and Phillips start rotating.

Malik Harrison was playing some SLB with Judon out. I was curious whether they could consider using him on the edge a little, because I always thought he profiled as a versatile piece for us. Don't think he'll do too much rushing from the edge, but if he can handle some of those coverage responsibilities that Judon has when he departs next year, that'd be great.

I already mentioned it, but Derek Wolfe has been a stud. So many impressive plays from him.

Pull concepts remain a staple, and Bozeman is still killing it with those responsibilities. Powers didn't look too shabby either.

While they don't always play well, there's a lot to like about the Bozeman/Powers combo at Guard from what I've seen the last few weeks.

This Oline would probably be a strength with this combo if Stanley were healthy.

What has me somewhat "concerned" is that if we get a good showing from Bozeman and Powers, we'll tend to ignore that we need some better depth and/or some upgrade there in the offseason. Center probably still remains in flux, because while I don't think Mekari is bad, I don't know that he's good either.

This post is slam on. I think the best OL we could trot out there appears to be Zeus-bozeman-mekari-powers-phillips, but I don’t trust the mekari/powers tandem long term if we wanna be the best rushing offense in the league and Phillips would have to make huge leaps to be viable there as well, which I actually don’t doubt he could do.

if Wyatt Davis is on the board in the first round and we don’t take him then I’m gonna begin getting pretty concerned with EDCs ability to draft OL

Agreed. I think Bozeman has solidified his spot at this point - not many guys moving as well as he does on pulls. Not a perfect player but a damn solid starter and I don't think there's any threat to his job.

Should have 3 of 5 locked in next year with Stanley, Bozeman, and Brown - pending health of course. I think Mekari and Powers are doing alright, but not so well that you don't try to upgrade.

I know they really believe in Phillips but curious to see what they do with him next year and beyond - is he a G or do you let him be the swing T so you never have to rely on a guy like Fluker again?

I think if they get a unit that works by the end of the year, they'll "plan" to target Oline in days 2-3. I obviously don't expect them to pigeon hole themselves into "must draft" Oline in the first round, because we never do, and I actually think we do have bigger fish to fry.

I don't expect Skura to be back unless he's at like the vet min, so at the very least, Center is going to be a priority in the draft or in FA most likely. Even if they like Mekari, no way they don't add a body or two there.

One could argue you've got some players at Guard that you should focus on depth at Tackle. Maybe Phillips is going to be the swing guy, but Fluker sucks.

speaking of Holden...

Powers must have been awful in training camp because when he's played he's been solid at least and in some ways good
he's looked really solid and has moved well in level 2 finding work etc.

I like what Tyre looks to have to offer moving forwards but Ben Powers looks to me like he should have been starting at RG to start the season

I want us to get better on the interior this offseason but I don't know that it necessarily means that Powers will be the odd man out...

from what ive seen of Davis so far he seems like a slam-dunk plug-and-play prospect and could work in any system

it's certainly possible - i think he's obviously involved in any competition at RG next year but he did ok reverting back to RT against the Cowboys and did well against Lawrence in some passing sets

it would be slightly disappointing if we spent a 3rd round pick on a swing tackle but it hurts less when we had 3 other 3rd round picks this year and all 4 have contributed early

Agreed. Thought he did well at T consider he's had maybe a week of practice there since he returned? Sucks if he does end up being a swing T but it might be the best role for him, and maybe even taking over RT if/when Orlando Brown departs after next year.

that's certainly a possibility with only 1 year left on Orlando's deal

I wouldn't consider that a disappointing pick by any stretch. Good tackles are damn near impossible to find coming out of College these days. There's teams starting guys every week that, probably ten years ago, would have been out of the league entirely in a pinch. They're that bad.

I've had the same position on the Oline for like a decade... depth matters almost as much as the starters do. The baseline assumption, for me, is that you will lose AT LEAST 1-2 starting Olineman every single year for an extended period of time. Like your gameplan for an offseason should be to try like hell to get 6-7 average or better Olineman on your team. And the good teams probably get 3-4.

Frankly, I don't where the hell else you'd get a swing tackle. I'd give like a 6th or 7th round Tackle like a 5% chance to make basically any contribution in this league, besides being a backup turnstile who's out of the league quickly.

Have zero issue using a day 2 or day 3 pick on a Swing Tackle, and especially no problem if he's your 6th Olineman and can play interior also. That guy will end up playing more snaps than like a Malik Harrison or some of these other rotational players will in their rookie contract.
