The 2021 Offseason Thread

And great job on Madubuike for actually taking it all in and allowing Campbell to mentor him as he has. Sometimes rookies, no matter what round they're drafted in, don't want to hear what the "older" guys are saying

look at oweh too - just taking it all in

That defense as a whole is very impressive with how well they learn from each other and bring their intensity and passion to the game. They're definitely not a stale team anymore, that's for sure, and that's becoming even more true every passing season

The guy is 5’8” (5’9” on a good day) and 180 pounds, COMPLETELY soaking wet… it’s a wonder he’s been this durable so far. I love him but damn if he had a few more inches to his height and about 20 pounds bigger, he would be a top 5 guy

anyone interested in loaning for the football season. I have nothing to give...

Well I have been needing a fast way to lose weight... 20 pounds is perfect lol. As for height, I'm short as it is so can't help there. Perhaps next offseason he can get limb lengthening surgery to make him like 6'0 or 6'1 or something.

Ah the ole stretch machine! Or just have him develop Mr Fantastic’s ability to stretch from Fantastic Four

I think Cleveland will be fine. He got by in college by being bigger, stronger, and meaner than most defensive linemen. By the looks of things no one really taught him the techniques of the position. We have good coaches though, and he'll get plenty of practice. Just give him half a season or so and he'll probably be up to speed.

Have they mentioned adarius washington at all? Im guessing he one of those guys who needs pads on to showcase his skills
Reportedly He started out playing a lot of nickel, he has since been moved to safety, he was mentioned by a few people from camp and has been spotted in some highlight videos defending passes.

he’s definitely not better off in pads, he’s severely undersized, but it sounds like he got a slow start and may be coming along now

Mekari, LT? Jesus H Christ… the team really does want Lamar to get killed back there, don’t they

Also if Tyre (with one ‘e’) wins LG and becomes something even a bit close to KO, hell I'm all for it

Haters gonna hate.

that's the ticket

What, if anything, has been said about Stephens, Stone, Wade and/or Wallace?
Stephens- playing exclusively at safety in elliotts backup role, nothing of note has been said

stone- iirc he’s been the chuck clark to Stephens’ Elliott 2 role

wade- haven’t heard much

Wallace- apparently he’s being used in the slot and being given a lot of deep in breaking routes, and Spencer from BBD says his body control is absurd in every situation, says his hands have been great and he’s done a great job shielding defenders from the catch point.

started showing up in people's reports the last couple of days since pads came on - wink was asked about him at his presser yesterday and said he's coming along well - has some coverage stuff to work on (which you'd expect with a udfa rookie safety) - wink specifically said he'll probably be a fun one to watch in the preseason

Was just looking at our depth for secondary and we are likely gonna carry more players than we usually do imo..

the problem is that those guys at the backend have to be able to play special teams at a high enough level that we'd leave ourselves thin at other positions

i think it's unlikely we carry more than 11 (maybe 12 at a push) DBs

1) Marlon
2) Marcus
3) Jimmy
4) Tavon
5) Averett
6) Chuck
7) Elliott
8) Stephens

those 8 guys are basically locks

9) anthony levine

is also basically a lock unless the ravens decide to finally move on from him (but would have to mean that one of these young guys has become more important than him on special teams)

10) Shaun Wade is a draft pick so unless he flames out it's likely he's getting carried on the 53 even if he doesnt show a ton

which would leave 1 or maybe 2 available spots that are truly up for battle and there's a whole lot of competition there for them:
  • Jordan Richards (who was a key special teamer the last 2 years)
  • Davontae Harris (reserve corner and was an awesome gunner last year after he came in - clocked some of the fastest speeds of any gunners in the league last year)
  • Geno Stone (2020 draft pick)
  • Khalil Dorsey (slot corner who also has gunner capabilities)
  • Nigel Warrior (he might be injured and out for the year at this point but we'll see - they had to get the stretcher out for him but he walked off - but before that they had him playing outside corner)
  • Ar'Darius Washington (udfa 2021 darling) - i loved his tape, lots of others do too but he's gonna either have to outright outplay a load of safeties ahead of him or he's gonna have to be great on special teams to make the 53
  • Iman Marshall (2019 4th round pick who's hardly been healthy and isn't practicing right now due to injury)
i think at most it's 2 of those 6 guys and it might only be 1
