The 2021 Offseason Thread

knowing we only have one more year of Peters after this season, assuming no extension, I wonder if they try and extend him to be the air apparent to Peters in the offseason. Of course it takes two to tango.
Its a big question. Right now he's just an average market value guy, and it'll be hard for him to "ascend" to a big contract if he's nothing more than like 3rd or 4th on the depth chart.

I'd love to see us try to keep him on like a Tavon Young-priced contract, but tough to say what the market will think.

Keep in mind it's very much a make or break year for Tavon. He's got two years remaining, but he's owed nearly $6M next year and the Ravens can save all of it against the cap if they move on. He needs a healthy year and a strong year, I think, to keep his roster spot for 2022.

maybe it changes later in the preseason but just looking at the way he played in preseason week 1 and the way he was involved on special teams (and how good he looked on special teams) i find it hard to believe they wouldnt activate him - so many of our DBs play special teams that idk that i'd be surprised if we were activating 9 or 10 of them on gamedays
Agree. I ultimately think he will. Just think it's going to take some injuries for him to carve out anything other than like an injury sub role on defense this year. Same thing with Wade, assuming he makes the team. He's either a gameday inactive or a purely ST player all day long.

Stephens role on defense is probably similar to Jimmy's... he'll need an injury at Safety.

i fully expect shaun wade to ride the inactives all the way to the 2022 offseason

i think there's sub-package snaps to be won on defence though especially in that middle of the field/split safety/nickel role when chuck moves down into the box to play dime - and that's where jimmy comes in and maybe that's where stephens comes in

i know im quoting myself but i just did this exercise and we're looking at a marked difference between huntley and mcsorely - mcsorely's drops in passing situations are a good 2 yards deeper than huntley's which makes the pocket massively steeper and harder to protect

I pointed out the same thing about Lamar last year. I was scoffed at, of course, but an awareness by the QB of where they are in protection is essential. Lamar made improvements as the season went on, but he was still quick to move when feeling pressured and that changes the protection dynamic and how effective blockers look at doing it. Glad to see it getting some general traction out there in sports reporting land.

I think we will be looking at some surprise cuts and wouldn't be surprised if Levine is on the chopping block, although I could just as easily see him on the active roster due to his ST play.

no question Wade was drafted as a player to groom for next season.

that's absolutely nothing to do with what michael's talking about here - he's literally talking about the depth of the pocket you set with your drop not how you move when the pressure's coming

lamar is a pass blocker's dream because he's got the ability to rescue them when they screw up - but that's completely separate to ideas about set points and top of drop points

levine's an interesting one - he's such a leader on this team but some of these young DBs look like they're gonna be really good special teamers and if not this year then definitely next year it's gonna be hard for him to justify keeping his spot over someone younger, faster and with higher upside as a DB

he'd be one that wouldn't shock me at all if he was released

While we’re in Carolina, can EDC make a trade for PJ walker? I’ll feel more comfortable with him as QB2 than Huntley or mcSorley. That guys nice lol

I think he's too much of one of Harb's guys to be gone this year as unfortunate as it is. Love him and he's kinda a Ravens legend, but if he sees any defensive snaps it means we are done for.

i remember feeling that way about mclellan the year we finally released him too though tbf - chris board came in and made him dispensable

Finally finished my film study of the preseason week 1 game...

really pleasantly surprised by some of the young OL guys in the 4th quarter especially - obviously the opponent quality was much lower at that point but Bredeson was bullying guys and creating movement and was violent and aggressive and picked himself up a couple of pancakes

and Foster Sarell the udfa tackle came in and showed a ton of promise - not a guy who looks ready to contribute or compete for a 53 man spot but definitely someone id like to see make the practice squad as a developmental guy - bit of a waist-bender and leans a bit in the running game but showed some nice balance and length in pass pro and created some movement and was able to manipulate and torque defenders with his upper body to create holes - on the TD drive he was frequently the guy the ravens ran behind including on the Huntley TD where he pulled and created the hole for Huntley

id definitely like to see him and Ealy more than id like to see schofield again in preseason week 2

id like to see bredeson get in the game a bit earlier for saturday - if zeitler's not playing then let bredeson get those RG snaps and see how he does

Those players are honestly a dime a dozen to 31 other teams, and we are pretty good at developing players who succeed in those roles

I do think this brings up an interesting and not directly related point that we should probably be looking for another QB at this point. Not necessarily a 53 man guy but would think you'd want an actual borderline NFL talent (not Bahar) in here learning the playbook and with an eye toward the PS until they decide what to do with McSorley.

they did bring in jordan ta'amu for a tryout earlier this month. I remember him being decent in that other league before it blew away

No way about Sarell! he was one of my friend's freshmen year roommate at Stanford. He was one of the top linemen to come out of the pacific north west ever also. I would love to see him make the practice squad for obvious reasons but he's a mountain of a man who if he can leverage properly can straight MOVE people.

( He was always mad that his girlfriend would sit next to Jackson in math though)

This random fan is live streaming the joint practice if anyone wanna peep
