The 2021 Offseason Thread

2) Marcus
3) Jimmy
4) Tavon

8) Stephens

those 8 guys are basically locks

9) anthony levine

is also basically a lock unless the ravens decide to finally move on from him (but would have to mean that one of these young guys has become more important than him on special teams)

10) Shaun Wade is a draft pick so unless he flames out it's likely he's getting carried on the 53 even if he doesnt show a ton

which would leave 1 or maybe 2 available spots that are truly up for battle and there's a whole lot of competition there for them:
  • Jordan Richards (who was a key special teamer the last 2 years)
  • Davontae Harris (reserve corner and was an awesome gunner last year after he came in - clocked some of the fastest speeds of any gunners in the league last year)
  • Geno Stone (2020 draft pick)
  • Khalil Dorsey (slot corner who also has gunner capabilities)
  • Nigel Warrior (he might be injured and out for the year at this point but we'll see - they had to get the stretcher out for him but he walked off - but before that they had him playing outside corner)
  • Ar'Darius Washington (udfa 2021 darling) - i loved his tape, lots of others do too but he's gonna either have to outright outplay a load of safeties ahead of him or he's gonna have to be great on special teams to make the 53
  • Iman Marshall (2019 4th round pick who's hardly been healthy and isn't practicing right now due to injury)
i think at most it's 2 of those 6 guys and it might only be 1

Washington is gonna outplay tf out of every safety not named Elliott or clark and still get cut because he’s not a great special teamer, the ones we keep over him will flame out in half a season, Washington will go elsewhere and be a starter by year 2. I already see it coming.

I’m hearing not great things about Villanueva. Seems like every time I hear about him in a 1v1 he’s on the losing side, and I’ve also heard Oweh has regularly torched him

Or could it be that Oweh is too fast for him to handle especially on the right side given how little he has practiced on that side?

I’m in agreement with this. New side for AV, and Odafe is just a freak. I think AV will be fine. Excited for James to get healthy though

Washington will be out of the league in 3 years, watch.

Shaun Wade was getting lit up on the outside during the beginning of camp, maybe since he switched over to slot he's doing better now

wade's not a true slot i dont think - too stiff of an athlete - think it's possible he's destined for a more flex/hybrid nickel-safety role if he makes it as a pro
 
Is there any update on Nigel Warrior’s injury? Last I heard, the Ravens coaches were confident in his safety play so they tried him at corner. Forgot where I heard that from, but that was quite a praise.

Wade did his best at slot, but I could see that too I guess
 
Any word on how bad Smith's injury is?

Silver lining to this, it makes room for another young player while we have a lot of young players that seems pretty good. Also, hopefully he can come back late in the season and be ready for playoffs. He's often gone by playoff time. Would be nice to have him fresh instead.
Of course, this is based on not knowing if he'll even be able to return by then.
