The 2021 Offseason Thread

Yeah and while apparently there is nothing structural, the soft tissue injuries are sometimes sneakily bad because the player starts to feel better and they think they can go, but that ends up getting them injured again. We gotta take it slow with him, he's really important to the team.
Straight up I’d shut Bateman down, no practice or game action, until at least week 6-7.

that's why i have no issues with what they're doing with hollywood who's basically practicing already but technically isnt - taking it really slow with those hamstrings

and harbs just said it'll be weeks but not months with bateman which suggests we're looking at grade 2 groin strain territory which is normally something like 3-6 weeks recovery which would put him probably in line to be ready to go a couple of weeks into the season (they wont send him straight back out im pretty sure without some practices under his belt first)

Yeah he might miss the Chiefs game which would be sad, but all that matters is he actually gets healthy.

Honestly might be a little relieved Bateman’s injury happened now. No confirmation, but you’ve got to believe it was in some way connected to what he’s been dealing with since minicamps. Maybe the inevitable happened, and we should be glad it happened now and not mid season. Gives him some time to rest up and hopefully heal appropriately even if he misses a few games. Better to miss preseason than the regular season

Hopefully it wouldn't take that long to get him fully right, but I understand your sentiment. I think what Simba just said is exactly right. This was always gonna happen unless they rested him and at least it happened now and isn't too bad.

Yall dont get it. Bateman isn't really injured. This was all done to ensure that Proche got more time to prove why he deserves a roster spot.

On the point of Proche though, he was listed as 3rd string on the depth chart. And that makes sense, but my question is after this really nice camp are we gonna give him some actual opportunities? I hope we will! I think preseason can continue to do a lot for him.

21 players not practicing today, most during camp so far. The heat may have something to do with that also.

Harbaugh said Bateman is out "weeks, not months", but couldn't commit to week 1.

im shutting him down until he's ready - im not sitting him arbitrary games lol

it's possible he's even ready for week 1 albeit if he is i wouldnt expect him to have a ton of snaps - my guess right now would be that he's not ready for week 1 but might be back practicing around that week and playing by week 3

The fuck is happening with Oweh

had his shoe off talking to a trainer yesterday towards the end of practice - probably just general soreness and stuff that naturally happens with the rookies every year in the dog days of camp... apparently hasnt looked fully 100% all week (per jonas shaffer)

probably a rest and recovery day - id worry if he's not at the walkthrough on friday but otherwise should be fine

remember that depth chart is basically done by a PA intern which is why tyre phillips was listed at tackle among other things...
ben powers is listed as the starter at LG despite not once taking a snap there this offseason...

that depth chart is completely and utterly useless right now

the only thing slightly of interest was Malik Harrison being named the starter at WLB over LJ Fort

right now proche's building a ton of trust between himself and lamar just by being there and catching everything and being in the right place - that bodes well for him getting opportunities

It’s not arbitrary if he’s continuing to rest and heal lol. As has been said before, that soft tissue shit is tricky. I strained the tendon in the front of my hip 4 goddamn months ago, and I’ve strained it time and time again since lol, like every 3 days at the least.

right but if he's ready to go, he's ready to go - there's no reason to hold him out for "rest" reasons if he's ready...

There’s the tricky part, with groins and hamstrings “ready to go” is a very blurred line, you always think a guys ready to go til they re-tweak it days later. this is how a nearly healed injury ends up lingering all the way into February, when another 2-3 weeks could’ve fixed it for good.

that would assume that the medical staffs dont take that into account before clearing someone...

Apparently they often don’t, since it happens all the time.

crazy idea here, but could it be possible that the absurd injuries on the OL could be scheme related? Both fronts are schemed in the most chaotic way possible, on offense there’s lots of pulling, lots of turning and running from the OL, lots of craziness in a phone booth, and our defensive front is a lot of the same, lots of confusion and bodies being thrown around, could guys be getting rolled up and knocked around because of the crazy ass scheme that we’re practicing? Especially with a lot of the guys being new to the system.

Yeah but the point is there's no like definitive "rest period" when any doctor or athlete can be 100% certain they're injury free and can return. Realistically, absolute certainty with an injury like this is like 6-12 months off. So if we're waiting that long, he goes on IR for the year and that's that.

Everybody is different. We've seen guys back to pretty high production from a torn ACL in like 6-9 months. Others take 15 months to recover and get back to something close to normal.

I hope Bateman is not Perriman Part II with the injuries .
So we have Hollywood , Bateman , Boykin all hurt and we know Watkins is injury prone .
The offensive line is hurt and hasn’t worked together in camp because of this.

Right now , we could be looking at a very rough beginning to the season .

Go Lamar and the run game !
