If we took Jackson, I'd need new flooring because my jaw would drop so hard it would crash into the crawl space.

Wouldn't hate it, but I would hate throwing in th towel on the flacco era so early
I dont think its giving up on him as much as it is grooming a possible successor. Weve seen how much value QBs in waiting hold in the market. Gives us plenty of options in the future. Flacco would still play as long as hes producing. When hes not Flacco becomes replacable

Am I wrong for wanting a horrible down period of 2-3 years between regimes so we can get a fucking fuckton of high end draft picks? I'd love to see decosta in this era of the draft, as crazy as some of these trades get, I think decosta would kill a moneyball approach. Trading back from a top 5 pick for 2 years straight

If thats the case than he is a top 16 player. Any QB with that kind of potential HAS to be a top 16 player.

idk - he just has such a low floor
i watch the tape and i see some incredible things but then i see the awkward mechanics in his throwing motion that create a lot of torque and power with very little wasted motion but i worry that those mechanics will break down if he gets even a slight injury in his left leg

i see the immense power he puts on the ball yet the delivery sometimes makes the ball wobble and dive in the air - he's way too susceptible to the lame duck throw for me to be comfortable

and he has some hella awkward footwork and has never really done any work from under centre so id really worry about whether that's something that this current ravens offensive staff can fix

if we drafted him he'd have to undergo enormous development and i dont know if that's a player we could have in the top 16 - there are players with enormously high ceilings who wont go in the first round of this draft because of the inherent risk - jackson may get overdrafted simply because he's a qb with incredible upside but id be surprised if he was a top 16 player on the ravens board

the closer we get to the draft though the more confident i feel that he's going in the top 15 picks

i still have a 2nd round grade on him though (40th player on my board atm)

Offseason would be fun but the games would suck. Im not really looking forward to a down period

his issues look fixable man. That's my thing with him, coach a wider base and coach him into incorporating his lower body in his throws, and coach him into a better pocket rhythm, meaning drop back, 1, 2, 3 step in a rhythm rather than standing in the pocket.

Fixing his base and rhythm should fix most of his problems, and the base is about as coachabl a problem that you could think of.

i dont see him not incorporating his lower body - i actually dont have a huge problem with the unconventional mechanics because he creates an incredible amount of power in a very whippy and fast delivery by using his left leg - he generates so much power through his left hip and left leg so for me im not sure how much i want to change in his delivery but obviously its susceptible to change dramatically if he gets a knock on that left leg just because of how much power he puts through that leg (albeit he does a good job of not overbalancing on it) - his front leg looks stiff but he does a good job of not overextending it which naturally creates a narrower base - that being said ive seen him throw with a wider base even with that stiffer front leg

for me there's 2 options with jackson - you either break down his delivery and rebuild it into a more consistent delivery or you go with what he has and try and fix its inherent inconsistencies which has risk because its more susceptible to break down under duress (be that pressurised situations or injury)

for me the problem is the way the ball comes out of his hand technically (as opposed to velocity) and i agree that its fixable - so often he puts lots of power on the ball and it comes out fast but it doesnt fly well and loses momentum quickly through the air - that can definitely be fixed especially as he learns more and more touch to his game

and obviously a lot of comfort and a lot of rhythm will come with reps under centre and sort out his drops

i dont actually think theres anything unfixable about jackson at all i just see so much that needs fixing that there's inherent risk which is why i have the 2nd round grade

for me jackson has nothing that's truly unfixable but has to look at all of these things:
  • footwork under centre
  • throwing mechanics in his body
  • delivery mechanics (how the ball leaves his hands)
  • touch passing and accuracy at all levels
  • working through progressions and making reads (very rarely see him make more than 2 reads before he improvises)
  • despite his power he underthrows his receivers a lot - seems like a timing issue which would therefore also need work
  • pocket awareness
nothing on that list is inherently problematic by itself but the fact that the list is so long just makes him too risky for me to have in the top 16 players on the board

Well, I have a flooring guy I could refer you. Just PM me

Good. Maybe the second highest floor in the draft. If the rumors about his character are bullshit then I think talent wise he's a no brainer in the second, barring any absurd falls of course

i really like him but i have 7 wrs ahead of him (probably more a testament to just how many 2nd round wrs there are than an indictment of gallup)

but if those 7 are gone then he's still great value at pick 52 (i currently have gallup 43rd on my board)
i have 8 wide receivers in my top 50 players...

btw i also have 10 OL in the top 50 too

if gallup somehow fell to our pick in the 3rd (he could just due to the day 2 depth at the position and his less spectacular ceiling) that would be unbelievable

Newsome: "You may be surprised on who we pick at 16 if we pick at 16."

This gave me pause - initially i thought it meant we were taking a defensive tackle but if its da'ron payne then it's not a surprise because he's from bama

then i assumed it meant they were sure that they'd have a trade down partner but there's no way they can be sure yet

so it must mean they think a premier talent is gonna drop to them - maybe a linebacker?

it's an interesting statement

Lamar Jackson confirmed

Im honestly curious about this. I feel like he could work here

We're taking a QB. The Griffin signing is the perfect smokescreen. No visits/ private workouts like Humph last year. But I've seen Marty and/or Urban at every QB pro day and they weren't there to just do their homework. Ozzies going out with a bang.

Tanner Lee at 16 LET'S DO IT

It's a testament to the 2nd round talent. I let myself fall for the rumors about Michael Thomas' character concerns when he was my favorite wr of his class, I don't wanna fall for that with Gallup when he's one of my favorites. In the second round, I like Moore, gesicki, Kirk, wynn, Washington, Hernandez, and Gallup in that order, now you can see why I say he's a no brainer, because likely everyone else is gone by then lol

Gallup has bypassed Washington in my rankings. All agreed otherwise.

Ya every time i see an issue with Lamar Jacksons accuracy it always stems from his base. Very coachabke problem and Jackson seems like a very coachable kid.

Ive said this before and ill say it again. We turned Tyrod Taylor into the QB he is today, than imagine what we could do with Lamar Jackson.

@rossihunter2 i actually think Lamars pocket presence is pretty solid. He knows when to move and he always keeps his eyes downfeild

i think it needs improvement - he's good at escaping pressure but there are times when i wish he'd step up a bit sooner and negate the pressure altogether - he then often jukes his way out of it anyway but he could do better with his awareness

he's good at escaping and moving out but i think he could work on his overall awareness and the angles he takes and moves to

i will admit ive come around on him looking down the field - im watching more and more tape on him and im seeing it more often than i have in other games - his eyes are down field a lot more than i initially thought

He needs refinement, no doubt, as do a lot of prospects. I just like that he has a natural feel for his position and he always plays within the system. He took coaching extremely well at Louisvilke and played in a complex system. Still they worked around Lamars strengths and thays what an NFL coach will have to do for him. Who ever takes him will have to change their playbook to better fit him and he will be successful.

He will have some ups and downs but thanks to his god given ability i think he will succeed early on. He will be the most athletic QB in the NFL once he gets drafted (Newton was the better athlete comming out but hes not anymore).
