The Offense Thread

We have a thread dedicated to a few different ideas based around the offense, same with the offense, but we also have a general defense thread. Thought we should create one for the offense as a whole after I saw this stat.

Russell Wilson has accounted for 311.8 passing + rushing yards per game this season. Not only is that figure the highest in the NFL, it is more than 5 teams this season: the Giants, Bears, Dolphins, Ravens, and Bengals.

This made me sick.
Yes, Wilson is very athletic. Another aspect of the game in which Flacco cannot help the Ravens. He and his agent used the Super Bowl as a bargaining chip to cash in for a huge deal. I honestly believe his agent knew he would never play any better and he had to strike while the iron was hot.

That number shocked me too, until I realized where we sat in the turnover department meaning we're getting more chances. Also, not sure if they are counting defenses tds.

We're #1 in takeaways.

What do we have in defense points?
12? 18? No way 24.
Not enough to bump us from dead last up to 18

Either way I think the 18th rank is just offense, but I don't know for sure. Either way other teams defense touchdowns would count as well so we are still in the same company.

Justin Tucker kicking 60 yard field goals makes the Ravens offense appear more efficient than it truly is
Other teams are getting their numbers via field goals as well. I don't see the relevance to this post at all.
In 2000 we won a Super Bowl on the leg of Matt Stover.
We went *multiple* games winning with out a touchdown from the offense.

Main point was extra possessions. Someone else mentioned it, but also the field position they're getting.

The 2000 Super Bowl was the direct result of a historic defense holding teams to an average of 9 points a game and never allowing a 100 yard rusher. Defenses like that are generational, the 70's Steeler dynasty, the 1985 Bears, etc.

Between special teams and defense, they have two return touchdowns, two interceptions for touchdowns, two fumbles for touchdowns, and a two point conversion. 43 points from the defense or special teams. It drops them to 28 with that.

Where the hell did you find those numbers? I searched once and gave up.

We all agree on our scheme - it's total shit.
But tell me, how many times do you think Flacco did not let plays to develop fully (in the majority of these screenshots he doesn't seem to be under any pressure) or anticipated where the WR might get open? NFL QB can't fucking wait to see the open receiver, by the time he does, it's usually too late.
That's what I was thinking. Saw a few plays in the live broadcast where Joe had ample time to wait and didn't let a play fully develop, but I thought a guy would come open deep a few times. Sure, sometimes the checkdown absolutely was the right option, but the pocket was so clean on so many of those throws and he had time to wait a tick longer. I miss old Joe who would stand in there and take a shot.

But don't show those pictures of a clean pocket to Tank. It'll just be fake news.

And?
I am not sure if you are arguing with me or agreeing with me.

Well of course we drop.
Lets do that exact same math with the rest of the teams.

Points per game strictly offense. See where we fit.

I found a stat that was average offensive touchdowns per game and average offensive points non-touchdown scored and the Ravens would sit in the mid 20's still.

Which I would say isn't terrible.
With a lethal defense could be just enough.

See also 22, 23.

Your deffinition of terrible is different from mine.
I can live with that.

The only way I can see this defense carrying this offense is if the rushers somehow begin to generate consistent pressure. And not for nothing, it's been a while since we've seen a big injury. Knowing this team, we're due very soon.
