The 2022 Offseason Thread

I shouldn't say Wink was unable to adapt completely because he did call the game against Mahomes and Herbert correctly. But just far too often he couldn't close out games. It's weird, it's like he was adaptable on theevel of week to week to but inside a game. Come fourth quarter we were always fucked if we didn't have the ball last
I mean, in many cases he wasn't closing games because we had a six string DB and backup d-linemen on the field.

This is an interesting theory and hopium. They went on to say how Harbs said in his presser that he’s planning on GRo being here this upcoming season, he be sure to mention how things aren't written in stone. That its the plan, but you never know kind of thing.

The two scenarios they can see play out for GRo to leave:

1. Rumors of Jim Harbs returning to the NFL is heating up. What if Jim wants to bring the old band back together wherever he goes. Our good friend, Vic Fangio is looking for a new gig. What if John and Jim made a gentlemen's (or brothers in the case) agreement. "Since im taking back MacDonald, you can take back GRo."

2. (this one I actually like) Is that John Harbs and company are waiting to see who's available after all the HC vacancy gets filled. Lets say someone like Doug Pederson misses out on this HC cycle. Would he be willing to become the OC in the meantime?

Now I know both are probably not going to happen, but I would've been thrilled to see us hire someone like Pederson. He was with the Eagles back when Harbs coached there, so check that criteria off lol

Just hopium for the offszn until the draft. Anything's possible -KG

Sometimes it was not even about room to grow. Yannick was good before he got to Baltimore, bad while here, and good when gone. Judon was good while here, and instantly reached all pro status when leaving. That is more than improvement to me. That is "these players are clearly not being used to their full potential".
it's scheme related, but I'm glad we kept Bowser over Judon.

that's not a bad name. I had a feeling this was going to be the name due to the 3 stars that were on the leaked new uniform.

Yeahhh… sorry mania but there are thousands of people making fun of it on Facebook… it’s a pretty bad name

If your scheme is keeping an all pro player from being that, then there is a problem with the scheme.

Schemes should be built around the players you have and not trying to fit players to the scheme. The offense did that with Lamar, but the defense couldn’t and suffered for it.

i mean judon went to 2 straight pro bowls with the ravens and then went to another this year with the pats (was not an all-pro btw)

the only thing that's changed this year is he's increased his ravens best sack total by 3 and he's played a load more snaps than in any other season with the ravens

I partially agree.
At the same time, that sort of implies that the scheme should be built entirely around Judon's strengths. There are definitely portions of Wink's schemes to greatly benefited some players, namely in the secondary. I think guys like Peters and Marlon are great players, but I think they fit very well in this system also. I don't know that either is nearly as effective in predominant zone schemes or similar coverages.

So its a balancing act for the whole group. Normally this would be the point where I'd say something like "well Judon was drafted before Wink was DC, so maybe he's just not the kind of guy Wink likes in that role", but then the obvious counterpoint is that Wink was the LB coach for a long time and directly coached Judon for many years.

So the truth is somewhere in the middle likely.

Our media is soft as shit sometimes though. Felt like they barely scratched the surface on questions related to scheme and philosophy.

Should have drafted him and this wouldn't have been a problem. Instead we took Art Brown. This isn't revisionist history either. Said then take him in the 2nd.
