The 2022 Offseason Thread

Credit is like respect... its earned. Comes through hard work, knowledge, etc. It ain't a charity case.

He can have whatever feelings or opinions he wants. He just doesn't get credit or accolades for being right on one that he conjured out of thin air and with no basis or knowledge coming from it. That wasn't earned.
Ok see i can agree with you on this..

I didn't conjure it out of thin air my friend . And i never say I told you so when im right. I hope what i heard is dead wrong.

OK so if you didn't conjure it out of thin air, where did it come from? (Hint: this is the part where you identify sources). And I think everybody in here realizes why they've asked multiple times for said sources, and you've declined to give them. It's because they're not real.

I heard it from a guy on Twitter (not a reporter) is conjuring it out of thin air. I heard it from a guy at Applebees who dates the third cousin of a Ravens staffer is conjuring out of thin air. Those people don't have any real information.

Lets put it this way snowflake, its not the scenario you stated.

Well neither I nor anybody else has any reason to think its any different than what I stated, due to the support or basis you've declined to present. So that's on you. Until that changes, myself (and clearly others) have largely dismissed these ideas as unsubstantiated rumors, because, well, that's clearly what they are. It ranks right up there with "Ravens are interested in trading for Amari Cooper".

And that's before going down the path of acknowledging how unintelligent the thought process is from the beginning. But hey, if you want to die on that hill, go for it.

Nothing wrong with being skeptical about what he said but we dnt gotta get all hostile
In an age where disinformation is rampant, people should have an obligation to each other to be truthful and accurate when possible.

Also he's not holding out his views as opinions either. Its one thing to provide an opinion that represents only your point of view. Its entirely different (and much more irresponsible) to "report" things as facts without really having a basis or support for it.

I strongly believe that Ronnie Stannley will retire within the next 365 days. I think even if he might play this year (which I don't think he will), his level will significantly drop off. Players dont get injuries like this. His leg got fucked, I am getting shades of Dennis Pitta. Nerve damage is bad.

Do we know the severity of his injury? Like was there really nerve damage or is this just an assumption due to the injury?

but like where are you getting these assumptions from?

we have no actual idea it's nerve damage - unless someone has explicitly said it is nerve damage, it's just as likely (or even more likely) that he just worked it too hard too quickly and inflamed the scar tissue and didnt therefore get the mobility back he was expecting... it would explain why they waited to shut him down (waiting to see if it would heal itself) - likewise if it was nerve damage it would have to have specifically come from the raiders game otherwise he never would have suited up in the first place and is exceedingly unlikely to have required surgery to heal

given we know that Ronnie's complaints during and after the raiders game were less about pain and more about not having the mobility he was expecting or hoping for - Harbs has said he's confident Stanley will be back

obviously the dislocated ankle is a horrible horrible injury but people are making it sound like he had his leg amputated and didnt actually suit up and play against the raiders (albeit not well but still was on the field in an actual professional game)

Folks: Wonderful back and forth with little or no intelligence about the reality of Stanley's medical situation. Very nice arguments based on conjured-up issues that may or may not have any basis in facts. Now, looking at everything we know about Stanley's situation can be summarized thusly. He has stated that he came back earlier than he should have and that resulted in reaggravating the injury. There have been a lot of rumors and conjectures being circulated about Stanley's ankle. Nerve damage et al.

The truth is we really don't know. Most recently, in an ESPN article, Stanley said he was working really hard with the intention not to just come back as a top-notch LT, but to come back better than ever. That indicates to me, the prognosis is pretty good. Does that mean Stanley will actually be better than before? No, but I cannot surmise 'nerve damage' or 'retirement' from it.

So, the best course of action is to wait and find out. The actions taken by the Ravens will inform us some, the training camp will inform us some more. We will surely know by the time pre-season rolls along with the real situation of the Stanley conundrum.

Very well put. The sources that said Stanley is retiring or that he has nerve damage are the same guys that are saying Hollywood is retiring to play video games. Don't take everything you see at face value.

…..nobody has produced a source to explain why they think what they think about Stanley.

Why is it so difficult to explain where something is coming from?

People just think he gonna retire and or not play up to par.. i dnt see the problem with them assuming… if stanley had played the whole season without getting injured, literally nobody would be assuming retirement for him so i feel like their is atleast some kinda logic behind it

It makes sense to be skeptical and plan accordingly. However you literally have another guy on THIS team who has been out for longer and hasn't retired and is supposed to be in play for a starting job.

I want Stanley to come back. I think the injuries have hurt him. He may not be the same. He may never play. But the fact of the matter is there has been no legitimate source that has said there's any bad news on this front and there is plenty of prededent including on this team right now that says being out two years does not mean retirement.

Except, financially, retirement doesn't make sense. MAYBE prior to 2023, but not at all logical for 2022.

Dude is still rehabbing his injury as we speak. It'll be the Summer before he even has a vague clue about whether he can or can't play this year. And if he can't play this year, he's not going to retire and forfeit a guaranteed salary.

Playing "up to par" is a whole different unknown and discussion, but that's also not something anybody is really debating. Its obviously a valid question about the effectiveness of a player who basically will have gone 18 months with little activity.

That doesn't correlate to retirement though.

…..nobody has produced a source to explain why they think what they think about Stanley.

Why is it so difficult to explain where something is coming from?
Well, three reasons:
1. there is no source. It's made up.
2. the source isn't somebody who would have that info, so they'd be embarrassed to share the source to begin with
3. the source is somebody important who doesn't want the info out there.

Obviously #3 is borderline lunacy at this point, since no source is going to leak this to a guy who posts on an online message board. If they did, they'd leak it to somebody who's actually in the media who would report it.

So its either 1 or 2.

Well couple things here:
1. We know nothing of nerve damage. May be real. May not be real.
2. If we're comparing him to Pitta, he came back twice from the same injury. Original hip dislocation was in 2013, he came back in 2014, injured it again, sat out most of 2014 and all of 2015, came back in 2016, played the whole season, then reinjured in the 2017 offseason and retired.

So there's literally almost a four year timeframe between initial injury and retirement.
