So there was a publication that deemed Tom Hanks the greatest actor of all time, or at least of the modern era... Now I love love LOVE some Tom Hanks, and he's actually #2 for me personally, but still. Who makes up your top ten?
1. Daniel-Day Lewis. Do I need to give an explanation to explain his greatness?
2. Tom Hanks. Two consecutive Oscars, has a good ability to not physically transform himself for most roles, but still nail the part anyway. An easy choice
3. Robert De Niro- Been in some crappy movies but imo is the greatest method actor of all time. Unlike Al Pacino(who spoilers doesn't crack this list for me even though he's great) he doesn't usually play himself in every movie anymore.
4. Denzel Washington- Similar to Hanks he doesn't really need to physically change himself to nail his roles. He never really plays himself and makes each character his own
5. Gary Oldman- Best chameleon actor of the modern era bar none. The fact that he doesn't have an Oscar should be a criminal offense.
6.Leonardo Di Caprio- Yup. He's ahead of Pacino, but for good reason. He can do both the method AND not have to change himself entirely for a role. Likely currently the best actor RIGHT NOW as he's at his peak tbh. Will probably win another Oscar, and it's well deserved.
7. Robin Williams- Most underrated actor in human history. While his improvisational comedy is BRILLIANT I found him getting lost in roles in even the worst of movies that he starred in. Good Morning Vietnam is one of my favorites and the only part of that movie(though it is a big part of the movie) that screams Robin Williams being himself is the comedy.. As he was so good at it that the good directors let the dude improvise most of it. Whenever they did not let him improvise... The movie sucked. That's a quality literally nobody else in Hollywood can lay claim to. RIP dude. You were taken from us way too soon.
8. Micheal Caine- Shame that he and Anthony Hopkins now do movies for paychecks only basically because both are phenomenal talents.
9. Kevin Spacey- Yeah yeah yeah. Allegations and shit. No denying his overall talent though. Playing two of the best movie antagonists in cinematic history is no small claim. American Beauty is practically made by him and is a FANTASTIC movie. Sure.. He's a scumbag but a damn talented one.
10. Anthony Hopkins
