The Movie Thread

No, you're allowed to have an opinion. I'm not really sure what I think about it, though.

that trailer is kind of more of an artistic melting pot of carnage than an actual setting the tone or setting the narrative type deal - i guess it might work for some people but it didnt offer me anything really particularly interesting or unexpected... if it wasnt a marvel film i probably wouldnt see it

im watching the trailer and it's cool and stuff but there's nothing really in it that makes me really feel like i need to see it - i will see it but it doesnt make me feel hopeful about it...

maybe i wont bother seeing it in the cinema given all the films set to release near it...

sicario 2 releases the week before, Jurassic world 2 releases the week before that, incredibles 2 releases the week before that, oceans 8 releases the week before that, solo releases the week before that, deadpool 2 releases the week before that...

and 2 weeks after it releases there's Alita which i knew nothing about but the trailer looks incredible, and mamma mia 2 also releases that week (the first is my guiltiest but not-guiltiest pleasure), the week after that is mission impossible 6 and the the predator hits in the first week of august

i might not see all of those films in the cinema but there are at least 8 releasing around that time that i will see in the cinema ahead of ant-man - so if i have to choose between it and most of the releases around that time then it might be one that i skip unless i see it gets reviewed well or word of mouth suggests its absolutely must see

the May-August release schedule this year is insanely full and i think it might actually end up contributing to a fall in box office for almost all of the big releases...

Deadpool 2 has the advantage of coming out first of all the summer releases and being 2 weeks away from infinity war (which will be by far the biggest box office draw of the 2018 releases) but outside of that i think most franchises are going to be slightly disappointed by the box office for their big hits...

Overall best sequels: ANY Indiana Jones movie.
Classic that anyone would enjoy is Analyze This.
For the SB people in Philly this weekend; Silver Linings

Overall best sequels: ANY Indiana Jones movie.

even kingdom of the crystal skull or are we pretending that film didnt happen?

and i think there's a lot of competition for best sequels of all time lol - obviously the last crusade is great but...
  • terminator 2
  • two towers/return of the king
  • godfather part 2
  • aliens
  • empire strikes back
  • toy story 2
  • mad max 2/fury road
  • harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban
  • the dark knight
  • the wrath of khan
  • spiderman 2
  • the good, the bad and the ugly
  • lethal weapon 2
  • dawn/rise of the planet of the apes
  • bladerunner 2049
  • bourne supremacy/ultimatum
  • X-2
  • Logan
  • any pick of your preference in MCU movies...
  • die hard 3
  • mission impossible 3/5
  • oceans 12/13
  • scream 2
  • back to the future part 2
  • french connection 2
  • Goldfinger (or take your pick of Bond films)
  • and many more...

id argue most of these sequels at least match (and mostly overshadow) the original film in their franchise and in most cases those films are cultural touchstones in cinema

Nobody is gonna say it. New Mission Impossible Trailer looks fucking awesome. Ever since the second one it's one of those rare series that has gotten better with every movie. This looks to continue the pattern

Any movie with Simon Pegg is an automatic success in my book. It's a law.

That franchise was about to die and JJ Abrams brought it back from the brink...
The third one might have been my favourite (until the 5th one) - ironically i wasnt even thinking about the new film coming out but ive been watching rogue nation (MI5) on repeat this last week because it forms the basis of an application form for a potential job i have to send in today

so it's funny ive been steeped in trailer footage so i saw the mission impossible fallout trailer and instantly started second guessing everything ive been doing the last 10 days or so

but you know its a good film when you can watch it over and over and over again in small annoying incessant chunks and still enjoy it - i think it's definitely the best looking mission impossible film (cinematography wise) and it definitely has the best characters too (which is why it makes sense that they would seemingly bring a load of the new ones back for this 6th film)

Has there been a bad one? Theyve all been great. Tom Cruise is almost always money
