The Movie Thread

For all the talk of Leo getting robbed of his Oscar, nobody and I mean nobody talked about Gary Oldman until now. Congrats to one of the best that no one ever talked about. No actor over the past two decades was snubbed as often as he was for this

im glad he's won an oscar now but i dont think this film was the one he deserved it for...

the big relief for me is that roger deakins (the greatest of all time) finally won an oscar for his work on bladerunner 2049 (but he could and should have won over and over again long before now for his cinematography

I was so happy that Oldman finally won an oscar, it's long overdue.

Also happy I can say "two-time oscar winning Blade Runner 2049"

Can't believe "remember me" won best original song over "This is me" though both are really good songs, I hope they used the sweet version of "remember me" instead of the showy one.

Wasn't blown away by any of the "best picture" nominees this year, but those were all basically templates for getting nominated, though not for TSOW, which was good, ot great, in my opinion.

i thought it was a great year for cinema and a lot of the categories had the right options - except for best picture...

obviously films like the shape of water, ladybird, get out should have been there
but there were so many phenomenal films left out for classic oscar fodder (as per usual)

Three Billboards is fantastic, hated Dunkirk

i still havent seen three billboards yet but i really want to - not sure if its still playing around here... might have to wait until the dvd/blu-ray release

but yeah i didnt like dunkirk - i found it technically impressive but narratively i was fairly disinterested

This is the dumbest premise for a movie I have literally ever seen.

I'm gonna kms

I read about this story a few years ago - it’s actually so funny - like one of them would occasionally just travel cross country to surprise there friend and tag them when they opened the door and then just run away home - they’d literally go cross country to spend a second to tag their friend

The charm of this movie is definitely that it’s based on a real life group of friends

Also fun fact: Jeremy renner has done numerous stunts in mission impossible, bourne and marvel films but tag is the first film where he’s ever been injured in a stunt

I didn't like the second one as much as the first, but yeah. Guardians 1 is probably my favorite Marvel movie followed closely by Avengers and the first Iron Man.

its quite nebulous at the top for me: but in some order its Iron Man, Avengers 2, Ragnarok and maybe Homecoming and Guardians 1

I was never blown away by the first avengers and guardians 1 was great but i always get bored by the third act (but its so seminally important that its hard not to think highly of it - although i prefer the technical elements of the 2nd guardians the 1st is the better narrative film)

the success of guardians and ragnarok though always makes me wish that marvel was confident enough early on to just let edgar wright do antman rather than worrying about the brand too much because when they let james gunn and taika waititi off the chain they made some stunning movies (maybe 2 of the most memorable marvel movies we'll ever have)

Just imagine how good Ant-Man could have been, if Wright got to do it. The movie was still enjoyable, but Wright could have made it special.
