2018 Forum Mock: Discussion Thread

I was really crossing my fingers that the Ravens would get that Brandon Williams restructure done before the lock but we ain’t about that life.

I've taken screenshots of every Spotrac salary cap chart and have also taken a screenshot of the transaction log to have a view of every move that occurred past the roster lock deadline. We're currently ironing out the details of the franchise tag values so that we can have the thread for cuts, RFAs/ERFAs and tag posted. I've also added notes to every single SoF page, specifically for the roster numbers at the bottom, which do impact your remaining cap. Mostly positively too, so please keep it updated for your own benefit.

Can you swap the Browns cap space with mine real quick? As Ravens fans, we all benefit...

For a price.

Just went through the salary cap figures of every team with transactions after the roster lock deadline, calculated their totals and adjusted the numbers. Anyone who hasn't PM'd me with their email address for the SoF access should do so now. Let's get these babies up to date.

and @Truth and I completed and checked the SoF pages.

@Truth , should 2018 draft picks always be included in the roster total?
Always. The draft salaries are subtracted from your available cap space from the get-go via the formula, meaning that they players should automatically count towards our roster totals since we deduct the payment for their salaries. This helps greatly via Rule of 51, because if your regular roster is at 51 player or higher without the draft class, you essentially aren't paying for any draft picks between the 3rd and 7th rounds. Not to mention that your draft picks between the 1st and 2nd rounds cost .5 Stars less each.

so from the get go i should just add the number of picks i currently have to the roster even though we havent picked them yet?

Yes. The "Draft Allocation" cell in B26 calculates your draft pool cost and automatically subtracts them from your "Total Remaining" amount. That's cutting money from your FA allocation, future trade possibilities, etc. So naturally, since you're paying for them up front, they should at least count as if they're guaranteed roster spots, which helps with the finances moving forward. The reason we ask to cover the draft up front is because we've run into situations in the past wherein teams either forgot to account for the salaries of their draft selections, or we ran audits and their remaining amounts weren't enough to cover their picks. We initially changed the concept to charging every team up front, but then every team technically lost money that they should've had to spend, especially those that had an abundance of selections. So the solution was to also count the draft picks towards roster spots so that everyone's remaining cap amounts are accurate all the way through.

I've just posted the thread for cuts, tags, and RFA/ERFA tendering. An updated SoF and a posted depth chart are required to begin posting official moves.

Two new additions in the rule thread about the freeze out ban in Free Agency and the new one-time restructure ability. Just a heads up. The changes are highlighted in green.

Ooooohhhhh restructuring, huh? How are we going about that? Dropping the base salary down to a certain amount and saving the remaining balance of the base salary?

Can we tender RFAs now or do we have to wait for the RFA period?
Or is the RFA period just for making offers on tendered RFAs?

Also @Truth , can i ask for more detail on what this addition means?

Teams cannot freeze out competitors should they have the Final Five rights. In short, if you have the Final Five rights, you are not allowed to up your own ante.

I'm finding it a little confusing...

Great question. I'm in the process of tinkering with the post as we speak. Just wanted to throw it out there first since the Cut thread was posted before anyone makes some sizable changes. We are allowing teams to lower one contract's cap hit to 75% of its value, so long as the contract satisfies the parameters named in the rules thread with regards to not being a rookie deal and the player not being in the 1st year of their deal. That should allow some teams to find some breathing room instead of being enticed to do away with the player via June 1st for cap relief. Of course they can either do one or the other. A point was made in that it does displace the financial responsibility onto future years, which the GM wouldn't be around for. However, the June 1st designation does displace the dead cap as well, so it seemed like a feasible idea to implement, at least try since it's been mentioned in the past as an aspect that we haven't found a way to implement. Its reception will be closely monitored.

Hard to explain to someone that has never played, but I'll give it a shot.

If you win the bidding rights to a player prior to the final 5 minutes, you can't bid on them in that 5 minute period at the end. In the past, there were people bidding and winning both milestones, thus eliminating a bid-off (which wasn't the intent of the rule).
