Willie McGinist saying Hutch has already picked and his short arms are gonna get him killed in the NFL.
It's bad take season. Measurements and testing numbers are certainly important but people forget so often that there's a bunch of tape of him killing some of the best Ts in college football that will also be playing on Sundays. Not saying he's a guaranteed stud or anything but always think it's funny when people point to measurements as a reason a guy will fail.

Tbh I can be down with Karlaftus we need somebody to man the strong side of the defense.

I know Becton was hurt last year but wasn't aware he was awful his bad his rookie season. If that's the case I get it but assumed they'd give him more time.
Well he had what was considered a somewhat mild injury that ended up costing him the whole season, and apparently he didn't take rehab seriously and got up over 400 lbs at one point. So I think the Jets have questions about work ethic more-so than his actual production.

Ultimately its about risk-reward.

Talk me down. I am envisioning a scenario Where the best players on the board are Linderbaum, Trevor penning And Karlaftis... Probably trading down or taking a wide receiver in that scenario

Linderbaum is not going to be an option
I dont think Karlaftis will be either

Penning might be an option

but... i think the worst case is a really good player is available at 14, they just might be a WR - that's really the worst case scenario and we'd still have a shot at a pretty amazing player

i think our worst case scenario has us able to select from all except 2 of these guys:

Andrew Booth
Trent McDuffie
Kaiir Elam
Drake London
Chris Olave
Garrett Wilson
Jameson Williams
Devin Lloyd
Daxton Hill
Trevor Penning

im happy with most of those guys at 14, if not enthused about all of them, but all it takes is 3 of these guys above to go ahead of 14 (or a QB or a random dude from out of nowhere)

and we get a shot at one of these guys...
Stingley
Sauce
KT
JJ
Hutch
Travon
Ekwonu
Neal
Cross
Hamilton
Davis

he was great his rookie year - i think there's some sort of irreparable relationship or clash with him and the coaches that's forcing this potential trade

Yeah its just strange. Might just be to say something controversial for the sake of it

there's no way hutch busts - he might not be any more than a decent starter in the worst case scenario but you're guaranteed a starting edge guy who you're happy to have on your team at a minimum and if his elite agility testing numbers transfer over to the NFL then you might have a perennial 10 sack guy - not the kind of guy who goes to all-pros but possibly the kind of guy who makes half a dozen pro bowls over his career

arm length matters... when those issues show up on the tape

it's why i care about it with karlaftis but i dont care about it with hutch despite them having similar measurements
Hutch has never had issues with his length or being able to stack and press and shed or been kept at arm's length through a rush

i have seen karlaftis, however, struggle to create stack in the running game because he cant create enough separation because of his shorter arms

it's a dumb take to just say "x has short arms, therefore..." etc.

the mildness of that injury has been disputed by becton's trainers and offseason coaches - duke manyweather when challenged on it, basically said it was never the short-term injury the jets suggested it was

idk what was going on to sour that relationship but maybe he rubbed the new coaching staff the wrong way at some point and they decided they were done with him because he wasnt their guy in the first place

for what it's worth - there are videos throughout this offseason of mekhi becton working and rehabbing

watch this be a smokescreen to try and get a team to jump the jets and take a tackle lol - then they role out with Becton at LT for the next decade

That top list outside of Trent McDuffie does not thrill me. I guess In my pessimism I'm imagining No 1 in front of us taking a quarterback or a wide receiver

First year in a while where I havent been completely convinced of a couple of guys we'd be picking... or guys i was desperate for us to pick up... just the nature of the class most likely

but there's no hollywood or bateman or queen or madubuike or daelin hayes or tim williams or cj mosley or maxx williams or jermaine eluemunor or michael campanaro or matt judon or terrence brooks

guys that, for better or for worse, just seemed like we would pick them and that they would somehow find a way to become ravens

there's a few guys who might be of that mould but no one that im as sure about as those guys above:
phidarian mathis
rasheed walker
jamaree salyer
josh paschal
alex wright

probably the closest thing ive got this year to guys who make sense in the same way

i feel you - and if that happens then we either take a stud like Drake London who we'd never normally get a chance at and just get stuck in with the AFC arms race on offence or we leverage that lack of receivers and see if we cant convince a team to come up and get ahead of the eagles before they take jameson williams at 15

but i see no way that we dont get at least 2 WRs off the board before 14 - the commanders for sure are taking a WR

All right. Thats starting to make me feel a little better. Thanks. Also starting to get a little nervous

Hamilton. I feel like the CB's we want will be gone and the DE and OL too. I don't even claim to know who they are because it could be any of them in the mocks. I'd love to see Jordan Davis or JJ, but if they are gone, Hamilton fits us like a glove.

Is Zion in play at 14 if we can't trade back? I just get this strange feeling Davis is off the board and we're gonna go full wild card
