The Offensive Line Thread

As I have stated before and I'll say it again PFF is nothing but a great big old joke. They don't have a clue what's going on.
TJ Lang came out with his hatred of PFF and pretty much said everything that BmoreBird said. I kind of think PFF has some good things going on with it, but at the same time it can be very subjective and even unfair to some players.

Per Zrebiec: Ravens have promoted G Skura off the PS and signed T Dieugot Joseph off the Bears PS

Also resigned Lanford, OG Arie Kouandjio and LB Nicholas Grigsby to our PS.

So do you think Bergstrom starts at RG this next game or do you think the team splits out Jensen to RG and has Bowanko play center?

I think I would rather see Jensen at center since he continues to play decent. But I am afraid of Bergstrom continuing to struggle. The Myles Garrettless Browns defense is definitely a step down from the Jaguars defense this team will be facing this Sunday.

bergstrom was not bad after a handful of snaps and should get better with more playing time. i would keep jensen at center because he is getting it done so far and more than holding his own. just have to keep developing the guys we have so they are ready to go because we are not done with injuries

'continuing' ? Did Bergstrom struggle against the Browns? He's no Yanda but I take some comfort in realising we're not alone.
It looks like half the league have offensive line problems. There just aren't enough good players to go round. In the next draft everyone will be going after o-linemen early. I hope they leave a good one for us.

Apart from few exceptions in recent years, getting O linemen early doesn't seem to make much difference compared to what you can get in mid-late rounds. Probably still better but more likely than not team will be missing on playmaker at other positions for a guy that would take 3 years to become ready to play on the O line.

He graded negatively and there were a few times he was pushed back. Luckily a couple of those were when Collins bounced outside and got some decent runs. But also have to remember it's the Browns defensive line....

The Browns DL is not a bad unit at all, they got some young and solid pass rushers their and their DL looks pretty disruptive.

its decent but if he struggled against that lot vs the jags it's going to be a disaster unless he improves. reality check, hes a 31 year old journeymen..he will be average if we're lucky, chances are he'll be average to shit.

Here is how I scored Bergstrom v Browns:

31 plays, 22 blocks, 5 missed, 1.5 penetrations, 1 pressure, 1 holding, 11 points, (.35/play), F (by a wide margin).

He isn't physical enough to play guard and I expect a change in the coming weeks if not Sunday. I have more detail in my OL article, which should post soon.

I think him being average is fine. I noticed though that every year we seem to have a weak link on the offensive line. In 2014 it was Eugene Monroe when everyone was playing weIl. We really only had three elite guys with Yanda, KO, and Wagner while Zuttah was solid but far from that label. In years past it was whoever seemed to play LT for us while everyone did their job. That weak link this year might end up being Bergstrom.

The thing I noticed is, Stanley hasn't started off the season on the level we expected. He's had issues maintaining his blocks on the pass/run. He hasn't really settled down and he seems to be shaking off the rust. He didn't return until pre-season game 4 against New Orleans and seems to be a guy who functions off of steam as we seen from last season. I feel like once Stanley plays on the level we saw him finish the season at last year, it will help tremendously with reducing the blow that comes with losing Yanda.

I don't see how in any shape or form this OL compares to 2013. We literally had nothing on that OL outside of Yanda. Our edges were abysmal and once Eugene Monroe arrived things hardly improved. Our inside line men were far worst than Hurst and Jensen and Wagner.

I wouldn't be surprised if we made a switch as well. Even if whomever you bring in isn't great as long as they fit the identity of the OL then that's most likely who will take over.

Anyone know if John Greco is fully healthy now? If he is healthy, I would have more confidence in him replacing Yanda more so than Bergstrom or Skura.

Just watched a little bit of tape and piggybacking off of what FilmStudy said, Bergstrom did not look good at all. I know he was coming in relief of Yanda but man he was pretty underwhelming.

Eluemunor played well in PS 4 against underwhelming competition. He's done a fair amount of pulling in the PS and probably most fits the identity the Ravens want when they are trying to close out a game. Sadly, they may not have a RG who can get them TO that point.

I didn't get much time to watch the pre-season but I'll definitely trust your evaluation on that. I personally think that Bergstrom is on a short leash any way given our circumstances.
