The Offensive Line Thread

I think the line is by far the most underrated part of the team this entire year. Please lock up Hurst and Jensen.

Is locking up Hurst really worth it if you're expecting Lewis, Yanda and Goose back at Guard spots? Especially with the surprising rise of Skura (who's under Raven control for 2 more years).

I think Hurst could be getting a bigger payday than we're all expecting. Despite his long history of struggles at Tackle, he's been a solid guard. If Luke Joeckel can get 8mil on a one year deal, I would imagine Hurst could end up in the 8mil or 9mil a year range.

Jensen yes... We have like 4 or 5 guards coming back next season. No point in Hurst unless it's a very cap friendly deal.

having decent backups who can play multiple positions are not easy to find.

hurst is a keeper tbh.

I agree, believe Hurst will get a decent payday. Let him go unless he is reasonable. I’d rather him be a backup. Jensen is the only lineman I want to lock up.

Definitely Jensen, I like his grit, but feel Hurst is an average Guard at best and absolutely horrible Tackle. Let Hurst get over paid elsewhere.
It seems we may have finally found a center in Big Red, and at the least a beast of a guard. I think they do what they have to do to keep him. Hurst? I think your right but they will still want to keep him, but will not pay starting guard salary. It’ll be interesting to see what sort of interest he draws.

Look at those guards again. Yanda will be 34 next season, and all though is one of the best ever, has had a ton of injuries recently. Lewis was a terrible guard in the respect where he actually can't run block. He is a tackle. And goose? His knee is screwed, they are saying the damage is incredible, similar to Teddy Bridgewater and he might never play again. Skura is decent, but nothing special. Hurst has been one of the best players on the line this season, has no injury history, can play nearly every position and is one of the best pulling guards in the entire nfl. If we could have him for 2 years on 8 million that would be incredible.

Even if they all came back healthy, guard would still probably be first position I addressed. Had very high hopes for Nico with Roman here, but who knows how that turns out. So damn sad what happened to him. I'm hoping for OL, but if Ridley makes it to us or close, I say pull the trigger.

You know... Come to think of it. Yeah. I think he's cursed us somehow and getting rid of him will bring us back to relevance. Get rid of him damnit

Guards can, and have played well not their late 30s before, and given that Yanda's game is heavily predicated around being a sound technician there is a legit possibility that he can play for another 3-4 years. Lewis is a hell of a lot better than Hurst in pass protection.

Hurst is an average guard at best and won't be worth the money and is a dismal tackle even as a backup. Some team will likely overpay for him. Let the dude walk.

We're addressing oline, most likely guard, in the first three rounds of the draft this year in all likelihood. Possibly double dipping if someone like Conor Williams falls to the third round or something.

And thank god. I think it was Rossi who said it, but oline play around the league this year has been mostly poor, which could inflate the rankings by default. Make no mistakes, our oline may be better than anticipated, but it's still wildly inconsistent and at times still isn't very good. We have pieces and getting the oline significant upgrades has to be a massive priority(seriously.. after last offseason where offense outside of Maclin and Woodhead was esentially ignored it has to be a priority).

Hurst has done well pulling, without question. That being said he has whiffed on a good amount of blocks, he’s average and best. If we can get him on a cheap contract to be a backup, I’d be ok with it, but if he wants starter Money, than let him get it in free agency.

Yanda, Skura, Lewis, Siragusa should be enough to cover guard spots. No need to retain Hurst, he doesn't really add anything. Plus, there won't be any danger of having to play him as a backup tackle on either side.

That’s assuming all of those guys come back 100% healthy.
lol at the “danger”. haha!

I mean, in the nicest way possible, chill out a little bit on hurst - he’s been a prolific pull blocker but he’s still been around average and after his recent performance at tackle he doesn’t really offer much value at swing tackle either - Hurst is probably the weakest player (it’s between him and skura) olineman currently starting and I honestly at this point think his greatest value to this organisation is as a comp pick

If we let him walk, and I hope we will, there's just no chance in hell his signing/play elsewhere qualifies for comp pick.

You sure? He’s gonna get money otherwise we’d resign him - I can see him getting 5/6 mill and that would qualify as a 5/6/7th round Comp pick likely

I'm not sure but I would never pay him that much.
I feel like given the dearth of oline quality in the league and hurst being a year starter that someone’s gonna give him money - and as long as we re-sign Jensen I’m happy for us to not keep him on our books - if he’s cheap enough then it makes sense to keep him in House but I’m pretty sure he’s outpriced Baltimore for what he is
