We have had more attempts this year than last, which is why our average is only 0.1 more than last year. Our scheme is much better suited for our personnel this year. I can’t wait to see what it’s like with Yanda and a new OG and RT next year. Skura will be very good depth next year.
 
I just trust the running game and oline more this year. 3rd and 3 or 4 i have no issue handing it off. 3rd and anything last year id have said no chance we can run it in

I like Skura as a candidate for LG next year and possible trade bait the year after.

I get really fucking mad when we are in an empty backfield on 3rd and <5. We run the ball extremely well and Collins finds holes and bursts upfield and gives second efforts to grind out that last yard as well as any back playing right now. He reminds me quite a bit of a young marshawn lynch the way he puts on moves in traffic and in the open field, he lags behind in raw power but the vision and cuts and burst is really reminiscent. If we run Collins on 3rd and 3 everytime I think we convert at least 50%

I actually thought about this, while typing. I'd rather land a stud guard in the draft in the first round, but I'd take Skura. He's done a decent job this season. Definitely better than Lewis, atleast at run blocking.

he's at least earned the right to go into the offseason as the starter (assuming hurst is gone) and compete - i wonder though if we will miss hurst - he's not a dominant blocker but his pulling has been a huge part of our running game success and he's been prolific at it i wonder if we'll be able to find someone who can pull that often and consistently or whether skura can do it...

Hurst has been very good at pulling, but has whiffed on many blocks as well. I do believe he gets a contract someplace else and will be fine with it. We may even get a comp pick out of it.

oh im not worried in that sense - i just mean that whoever we replace him with i hope is able to pull well and often because its been such a useful piece in our run game with hurst and im not sure whether alex lewis or siragusa or skura or eluemunor or drafted player is going to be able to pull the same way

I still take Lewis before him. Skura is very weak as a run blocker from my observations (albeit I don't pay a lot of attention to OL play)

I'd love to get an upgrade over Skura, but I like the guy. He reminds me of the typical New England interior lineman. I've always felt like New England has gotten solid production out of no name guards that all look just like Skura: 6'3, 310, not super strong but strong enough, not freakishly athletic but sufficient, sound technician, great puller, solid in space, and can play all three interior spots. Just exceptionally average players that don't make mistakes. Skura is a great complimentary piece and the kinda guy I'd love to have longterm at LG, so you can spend your money at LT, C, and RG where you need it.

Skura is good at the second level, a solid trapper, and a decent puller. The only spot he really has to improve on his blocking at the point of attack, mainly in short yardage. That's something Yanda may be able to help him with, because Yanda is pretty much the same player in terms of frame and measurables. Yanda plays strong but he's not a workout warrior. He's just so much more effective that most at transferring lower body power into the block and using his athletic ability to generate power. Maybe Skura gets there, maybe he doesn't, but he's a viable option at LG.

I like Collins back there just because they have to respect it just like against the Browns, the passing game opened up with him on the field because the Browns felt like they had to load the box to slow him down.
 
so im watching harbs at the owners meetings and this was interesting - as it stands this is how he considers our oline to look:

Stanley, Lewis, Skura, Yanda, Hurst

he considers hurst to be the right tackle at the moment and refers back to him apparently playing incredibly well last training camp (and tbf the fans have never seen him play right tackle)

he considers lewis still the left guard because of the important of movement in our run blocking scheme (again we havent actually seen lewis in the power scheme)

he said skura is the leader in the clubhouse but specifically said matt will get FIRST crack at it which suggests to me that center is the main position that harbs wants addressed on the oline

im not enthused by these comments but he cant tbf give out starting jobs to guys like siragusa who havent even finished a training camp yet... or a rookie who hasnt even been drafted yet...

If this proves to be true and oline is not the primary concern of the draft. Then we are so fucked. Hurst at RT is a disaster waiting to happen, no C. Lewis isn’t a fit at guard.

This screams to me that oline is going to be a heavy focus in this draft for us... if not. Well.... then prepare for us to be the 2017 New York Giants.

It doesn’t matter how good the WR corps becomes if our oline is as pathetic as the current one on the roster. And yes it’s pathetic.

he said - and tbh it probably is true that our oline is in a better position than it was at this point last year but obviously i expect us to go and improve
the whole conversation came up with regards to a question about alex lewis at center and harbs said of course he could be tried there - i think that, more than anything else, is indicative that we will have a few targets in the draft because lewis at center only happens if we get a tackle so that we shift hurst to guard or we get a guard that shifts lewis to center...

and the more mock drafts i do and see the more i see mcglinchey right around our spot at 16 and it makes an awful lot of sense to me
 
I've seen enough of Hurst to know it will end badly. Skura needs to juice imo or he'll get manhandled every single snap. Now we need to draft not only WR but also a TE and multiple OL.
 
Harbaugh must have a ton of faith in the scheme and in Skura, Hurst and Lewis ability to execute it.

If OL is indeed less a priority to FO than a lot of us feel it should be, look for us to take WR, ILB,RB early.
