Lamar Jackson

There's just been a whole lot of stuff that feels "off" with Lamar this year. Just never seemed happy on the sidelines. Wasn't happy talking to media. All these accusations of being checked out in meetings, being late, not going to treatment, not doing treatment right. Now people are claiming the Ravens were thinking he'd be playing, but he doesn't want to until he really feels good.

I haven't the slightest clue what is or is not true, but this was a different Lamar Jackson emotionally in year 5 compared to years past.
Yeah he hasn't looked happy this year .I would not be shocked that if a deal isn't done after the season, he asks for a trade.

Are any of the players really 100 % right now? Campbell,Peters,Robinson,Dobbins,Edwards,Stanley, etc. and on and on? This is disconcerting as it implies Lamar could be holding out until he's 100% because he doesn't want to possibly get reinjured because he's not under contract.
Really disappointing trend that’s starting to form. Similar concerns brought up during the rehab last year. Lamar needs to do what he believes is best for himself , but from a fans perspective it’s disappointing.

And what's best for his team. Don't be surprised if there are a few players on the team raising their eyebrows a little on the current Lamar injury scenario.

From his perspective he can probably act however he likes and he will still be a top 5 paid QB with a near guaranteed contract when this saga is over. Watson had 2 dozen sexual assault allegations and hadn't played in a year and he still reset the market with a fully guaranteed contract and I can guarantee the Browns aren't the only desperate team out there.

It’s explains some of Harbs responses to questions regarding Lamar’s health. Seems very aloof and annoyed. Beyond the normal when it comes to answering questions about injured players

Surprisingly, I kinda side with Lamar on this one. What does he really stand to gain by going back out this year? We’re good for an upset win in the playoffs but that’s about it.

If he is healthy, to prove he can take a team to the Super Bowl like he said he would when he was drafted. I realize it's unlikely this year with no receiver help but we didn't expect it in 2012 with Flacco either.

If you ask for an estimate on something that is influenced by multiple factors and are upset when the estimate isn't accurate it's time to reset your expectations.
This might be one of the best posts I've ever seen written on these boards.

It is truly disappointing that, in 2022, even in a post-Covid world, the majority of the population is unable to comprehend the simple fact that estimates are estimates, and that they can frequently be materially inaccurate.

And when they're inaccurate, its rarely because somebody lied.

Lamar acting as his own agent is the worst thing he could have done for himself and the Ravens. It simply creates an adversarial position
between him and the organization. Can you imagine some of the banter during summer negotiations? The Ravens say something that Lamar takes offense to and creates a little bad blood. He stiffens his position because of the perceived slight.

IF YOU WANNA KNOW WHY LAMAR IS UNHAPPY THIS YEAR ,ITS A LACK OF A CONTRACT ...... and a feeling that maybe the Ravens are
shortchanging the money he feels he's due.

Well it could be disappointing to his team mates if he chooses to sit out the playoffs. That’s some total bs right there. I get maybe not rushing back right now, especially when we have little to gain if we can’t win the division, but he better be ready to go when they tee it up for game 1 of the playoffs. That is of course if he’s been given a green light to play.

That's up to him. Me personally... I think if he doesn't come back, and he spends a second straight season basically on IR to end the year, he has a 0% chance of expecting a long term deal in the Watson range this offseason. If he's OK with that, so be it. The franchise tag it will be, and Lamar should understand why that is.

Perfectly reasonable for the FO to have serious concerns about his availability during critical times of the season. And those concerns would certainly be big enough to warrant not paying heaps of fully gtd money currently.

And yes, people can say that it just shows much more valuable Lamar is than Huntley. And I agree he is. The problem is... if Lamar's going to have a series of injury issues that prevent us from reaching expectations, there's no point in paying him money if you don't think he'll be available when you need him to be.

I don't think its the worst thing for him for the public reaction.
I think its the worst thing for him because, if he had an agent, I think there's a 95% chance he'd be under a long term contract right now, and I think there's a good chance it would have happened last season too.

It's really sad where we are with Lamar right now. The way things are playing out it seems more likely than ever that he will not be a Raven long term.

I've not given up on that. I still think its the most likely outcome he signs an extension.
I just have low expectations of it happening early this coming offseason. I think he spends most of the offseason under the tag, and possibly plays the season under it.
And I think fans need to prepare themselves for what that means for personnel and roster decisions for the offseason.

I don't see the Raven's as an organization being a good fit for him in terms of the financial aspect. It's just not how they operate. I think they"ll make him a sizable offer but not what he thinks he's worth. And if he walks, Derek Carr is now feeling under appreciated and looking for a new team as well.... and taking over his contract would be like half of what they've already offered Lamar. Just a thought.

That will make it another depressing off season

Carr couldn’t win with Adams, he’ll love it here
