Lamar Jackson

The Cardinals deal was almost as dumb as the Browns deal to Watson. I don't see the Ravens giving Lamar 80 % fully guaranteed money particularly as he seems to have difficulty staying on the field

You keep saying 80% but there is no way (I think) that you can justify paying Lamar less than Kyler. Bc if I listen to some people, then the Watson deal "doesn't exist" except it actually does. So then it leads you to Kyler Murray. Murrays contract exists and it's a thing

Again, I don't know what I don't know bc we know Lamar wants guaranteed money but we don't know how much.

So if you are Lamar Jackson, what matters more? The number at signing or practical?

Bc to me it sounds the same and what changes is the "when it gets" paid.

Help me understand if you don't mind
Probably cares about both. The number at signing is critical, because you get that no matter what.
Though as others have stated, there's a $106M difference between Watson and the #2 QB (Wilson) in terms of gtd $ at signing. If the offer we've all heard about is true, I believe it was $133M gtd at signing, which is the second most in the league.

Assuming it about the number I highlighted, there is no way you pay him less than Murray
He will get more than Murray in terms of AAV, $ gtd at signings, and probably come close to or exceed his total practical guarantees. He deserves all of them and will get it, both from the Ravens and from any other team trying for him. By all accounts, the latest offer we made (if true) exceeds Murray's in all of those categories.

It's just a question of by how much more it exceeds him, what the total gtd $ is, and what Lamar is looking for (the last part being the critical point).

If Lamar gets 80 % or higher fully guaranteed money from the Ravens I will be completely shocked.

Practical guarantee is a stupid figure. If a player plays out the contract, the contract value is reached. There's no "practical" about it.

Lamar deserves ONE of the measures everyone talks about... either the biggest signing bonus or the largest number over the whole contract length or the average annual value. But two of them cripple us. All three of them and we're pulling a Brownies and paying just to have the guy. If he had played out the last two years, I might feel a little different.

I'll ask again, why not let another team deal with this shit and just move forward with a pretty damn good team already in place? Is he worth it to continue the potential of being paralyzed by paralysis of indecision? This can't drag past the opening night of the draft for us to really capitalize.

I mean... practical guarantees matter.
Kyler is the perfect example. There's already rumblings of them wanting to move off of him. He's going to miss a decent chunk of 2023, and that team is in the tank right now.
His total contract is $230.5M. If he's not performing, and they want to move on (especially towards the end), I think Ownership might think its kind of a big deal to save the extra $41M or whatever it is.

Practical guarantees exist because, if the player is not performing or can't perform, Ownership isn't going to want to keep paying them. It's how much the player will get before its reasonable that the team will move on. The assumption with all these franchise QB deals is that they always perform well enough to make it through the contract. That's not even close to being true.

I recall that reaction he had to the reporter that said he turned down 200 million and his reaction was "guaranteed?"

Leaves me wondering

What does 2nd or 3rd highest paid mean? Is it in AAV, guarantees or total contract value? The offer would only be 2nd/3rd one of those metrics, I expect, because Zriebec loves to put a team-friendly slant on things.

Anything less than the #1 highest contract in AAV seems a bit lowball to me. We know Mahomes and probably Allen will have higher total values because of the length of their deals. We know Rapey Watson will have the highest guarantees, but the next guy up, whether that's Lamar, Burrow or Herbert are justified in expecting the highest AAV, because that's how it goes with top QB contracts.
Dam who did deshaun watson rape? havent been in the loop so i didnt know he actually raped anyone

I won't be shocked, just appalled.
I certainly won't.

Since coming into the league he has the 2nd highest QBR which takes everything into account and the 3rd highest win rate (over 70%). Yes he has only won 1 playoff game, but lets not forget some of the issues that happened during those games.

I don't want to see Lamar go and I won't care if it's 80% guaranteed. It's not like he isn't going to see the end of the contract.
It's all about the structure of the contract and we will be fine if he is extended.

I kinda want to start a new thread with a poll to see what our community thinks as far as Lamar staying or being traded
