Lamar Jackson

Debating whether or not Lamar is getting too much credit for Ravens success:

Personally, I don't think he is getting too much credit; I just think the defense is not getting enough recognition.

Housh got that Jason witten 3-word burst way of talking lol

Interesting data coming out of the last couple of days about young qbs from NFL matchup...

Some hoo-ha because lamar’s passer rating outside the pocket is the 2nd worst of all young qbs in the league

But I’ve just seen the inside the pocket sibling stat...

I’m on my phone so I can’t embed the picture of it but here’s the important part:

  1. Patrick Mahomes - 117.0
  2. Deshaun Watson - 102.2
  3. Derek Carr - 101.1
  4. Carson Wentz - 100.6
  5. Lamar Jackson 99.0
  6. Jared Goff - 99.8 (he’s listed below Lamar on the image but 99.8 is higher so it’s either a typo and should be 98.8 or he should be 5th above Lamar)
Either way this is impressive

Obviously proviso that this is based off a small sample size - which is why his outside the pocket passer rating is so skewed low (probably by his couple of ints)

But the general trend of Lamar being a better pocket passer than outside the pocket passer is interesting (another proviso that passer rating is not qbr and therefore does not take into account running)

That’s interesting because I always felt like he threw it better on those roll outs.

he doesnt roll out a huge amount so the high variance probably kills his average number because he threw an INT vs the bengals (and maybe another one - i cant remember)

as always with almost everything 'it's never as good... or as bad as it seems'

I just listened to some of the PFF guys on their podcast talking about the chargers-ravens game and it's crazy how they still have these lamar-hating boners that they cant get over because they mis-evaluated him months ago...

they compare and talk about him and criticise his accuracy etc. by comparing him to Rivers, Brees and Brady - (before i make this point i want to make it clear im not hating on joe) but comparing joe to those 3 would be very unflattering also - it's like they are completely unwilling to recognise that he's a rookie/young qb and that what you see now is what he's always going to be

and then they talk about his mechanics and how it gets the ball where it needs to get to but looks entirely wrong and different - but they completely fail to see the irony when they were just comparing him to Rivers who has maybe the most unorthodox delivery and mechanics the NFL has seen this century from a professional qb

these guys who should be the "analytics guys" arent letting analytics lead their opinions of lamar for some reason and its infuriatingly stuck and narrow-minded

The funny thing is - Lamar beat Rivers, had he played vs Saints I'd bet significant amount he would have beaten Brees, too (they beat us on TOP alone) and he will fuken beat br*dy in playoffs.

PFF always has been, always will be, a bad joke. I've never taken them seriously. Not even a little.

Lamar's delivery is a bit clunky. Sure, it should be addressed if possible, if for no other reason than I worry about the wear and tear he'll endure over time with that motion.

But a dime is a dime, and he threw a couple of them last week, while simultaneously reducing the number of garbage throws he made compared to previous weeks. PFF must be an acronym for Pittsburgh Fucking Fuckfaces or something, I dunno.

some of their grading is interesting - but its mostly useful when it confirms what you've seen or when it challenges what you've seen and it forces you to go back and re-analyse what you saw to examine why what you saw was so different to the PFF grade

but mostly it's fun but ultimately not that useful

was only listening because I was bored lol

I've heard the last couple weeks podcasts as well and it is absolutely them trying to cover their tracks for totally mis-evaluating him in the offseason. BTW, he has about a 60% completion percentge, which isn't bad for a rookie QB. Someone needs to put them in their place.

i just dont like the way they are going about it - even colin cowherd back tracked and was open about how wrong he was

just type colin cowherd lamar jackson into youtube search bar and you'll likely find all sorts of stuff lol
Yep, watched a couple of them. Pretty good backtrack. Interesting how more young QBs are successful from thr get go do to more of a college plays being added to the playbook, but that’s been obvious over several yrs now. Nice to see him put it out there.

There are couple of odd guys out there but everybody in the media is just like fucking parrots, repeating what they've heard from the first guy, which was a cliche. They have now all flipped.

Tools.

Oh man cowherd sounds like lamars goddamn biggest fan, just YouTube Colin cowherd lamar Jackson and set the criteria to upload date
Yeah, I actually stopped watching him back in 2007 after Sean Taylor’s death and how he went and disparaged his character. Sean Taylor had changed from his a few yrs earlier, but the media didn’t know this about him, because he refused to speak to them. The only people that really knew his true character were in skins park and friends. He just totally disrespected him. Can’t believe they was 11 yea ago.

just watched the marty presser (i dont often watch pressers during the season) and the way he talks about lamar without really saying anything just made me feel a lot more comfortable with Marty as OC than I felt about him before - we've got a coaching staff that is incredibly studious and knowledgeable and puts the work in with game planning and preparing guys

as always the question mark will be (and has been for marty's whole tenure) the playcalling itself and the inconsistency of it - for someone who plays dumb so much during pressers marty doesnt half try and outsmart himself sometimes and get stuck in his own head
