Lamar Jackson

That guy is a bigot period. Whether he intended to display his bigotry in this instance or not isn't the point. The point is you have these hate filled bigots out there making money off the people they hate and that is a travesty. Yorkie boy needs to send a message to other such people by getting rid of this dude whether what he said was malicious or not. It's important for the NFL to show that there is no place for bigotry or even insensitive shit like that in sports.

He's right, though. That's why the Browns with their uniforms have been an unstoppable force since their return to the League. No one, including them, can figure out where the ball is. And let's face it, if footballs were white, Flacco would still be here and he and Danny Dimes would be going toe to toe for MVP.

On a non-sarcastic note, shout out to Ellicottraven's avatar. As a civil engineer, I can attest to that being a BIG TRUSS!

Thanks for the recognition and shout out... that is surely a big truss and made of steel! Purlins, webs et al my friend.

While it was a really stupid, ignorant, and offensive thing to say, I think calling the guy a bigot and hateful is a bit of a stretch. I think complete moron who is unfit to speak to the masses because he has no common sense filter is more appropriate.

Shannon sharpe apparently knows this man very well as a lifelong associate, and he says he is downright shocked that he said this, because sharpe, who is not one to take it easy or play nice with racial matters, says that this guy is just not a racist type of person and he’s basically convinced that he was just reaching for talking points to fill some dead air and reached for a really stupid point. Sharpe is someone who’s word I would take, if he thinks this way about Tim Ryan then I can side with him and not consider him a racist or hateful bigot, however... while I’m not part of the outrage or cancel culture, I think the dude should be fired on incompetence alone, because if you can say that on air then the odds are you’re gonna say some other really dumb shit one day. It’s clearly a really messed up thing to say and you gotta be better than that, and Lamar deserves an apology from him directly.

did you see that skip pulled up some other comments from this ryan dude on the broadcast too - was shouting and getting frustrated at fans also - just a bad temperament

i think shannon said something important - he cant speak for what a person thinks or says in the privacy of their own home - doesnt matter if he doesnt normally say stuff like this and maybe it was a slip-up and innocent etc. but i think it speaks to a larger issue of the biases that are held subconsciously about race in some cases even by honestly outward projecting race-conscious/sympathetic people - there's often an implicit subconscious impression that may have come into play here

as sharp said - dude probably doesnt need to have his career ended over this - although he did note that ryan hasnt actually apologised publicly to lamar (only to the audience listening) which isnt the best look - but its a potential learning point for people to reexamine their own personal biases etc.

while ryan may not be a racist, it's been clear through lamar's ascendency in the league since he was drafted that there are still some really worrying racial stereotypes and racially influenced language and perspectives that still exist and pervade around the league and that those need to be challenged and ryan is part of that pundit class who need to take a good look at themselves

IIRC, Lamar played only 2 games this season wearing a black jersey and all 13 with a dark football. He fooled the rest of the league with hand-offs numerous times, wearing white jersey few times. What's the excuse for those games?

Of course it's subconscious racial bias - when you're covering live game, you have to say things fast and subconscious is what comes out first.

White baseball pitchers are obviously better than non-white pitchers because the baseball is white /s

shannon even pulled out a clip of peyton manning in a broncos uniform faking a whole defence just to ram home that point

There are definitely racial stereotypes still affecting people’s views of QBs, I spent the whole offseason blasting tf out of people who were bashing Lamar to the point that they might as well have come out and say they didn’t want a black qb replacing their golden boy Flacco, because really like 75% of ravens should’ve just come out and said exactly that because obviously that’s what they were thinking.

But talking about the subconscious things, it was a comment about skin color, it’s not like it’s some subconscious prejudice or bias to acknowledge that a black persons skin is darker than a white persons. I just don’t think this situation is any deeper than an idiot with no filter saying something idiotic, not about uncovering deeper racial problems in people’s subconscious. Leave that for the people who boycott the nfl because they’re not ok with prominent black athletes protesting injustices to minorities, or the people who literally didn’t want Lamar to start because he’s black, those are the issues worth diving deeper, this guy needs to just be fired and ridiculed for being an asshole.

This man's leadership and intangibles should NEVER be in question.

OMG THIS!!!

I wanted to post this but looked first to see if someone else had. It is absolutely my favorite clip from the Wired.

This feels like another one of those pivotal Lamar moments. The emotion on his face as he pounds his chest “my bad” man total accountability to his team. And he’s teammates response to show solidarity is a thing of beauty.

That’s the kind of thing that propels him and will propel this team. I don’t think you are going to see a fumble from him in the open field again anytime soon.
