Lamar Jackson

Attempting to read between the lines of EDC’s presser, it sounds like Lamar is betting on himself this year before signing a contract. Anyone else feeling that way?

Not necessarily. They’re paying him mega money regardless so I’m not sure another year is going to get him any more than he’d get now. More just the difficulty of negotiating with a player directly… especially one that seemingly doesn’t care as much about the contract as many think.

that's possible - more i'd say that they're still far apart in the negotiations and lamar's seemingly in no rush to get the deal done
we've seen it happen before with these kinds of deals that they start coming together once the players come back to the facility for the offseason in june and july

Seems you both are saying similar things. Would be nice to have him signed this off-season but then again it doesn’t matter much as I’m sure he isn’t going anywhere anyways.

It's just a unique circumstance. It's not like Lamar and EDC are calling each other up every week to talk contract stuff. As Rossi alluded to, it's very likely that you get some movement when he's back in the building this spring/summer. Unfortunately not one of those where you call an agent to talk about one guy and then slyly throw in that you want to discuss Lamar's LT deal as well while you're at it. Really just takes patience from both sides but it'll get done.

I lowkey want lamar to resign right now but then again if he is betting on himself, id take that over anything.. just dnt want it back firing and having to deal with all the people who live under rock thats gonna blame not having a real agent for the messed up situation.

That seems like an odd take and no real evidence to support Lamar doesn’t care as much as others. Seems to me he just has a good poker face, also doesn’t hurt he knows he’s got the Ravens by the balls.

The Joe Burrow hype is out of control, please god Rams

I just can’t pull for LA. I hate that place with a passion and the teams “fans” are non existent. Feel like a shitty , blue collar, small market city like Cinic deserves a SB more.

Can’t disagree about the LA point, but I can’t get over how much shit Bengal fans and their players talk to us when they’re good, so I definitely want to see Burrow die in this game like Mahomes last year but worse

Read my latest post. When I say he doesn’t care, it’s not that he’s saying he doesn’t want $40M a year. It’s just that he doesn’t have an agent who’s pushing him here. It’s all on Lamar’s time and he’s not here in Baltimore meeting with EDC right now itching to get it done. He knows he’s gonna get his money. He’s just not going out of his way to make it happen now.

Yes that’s tough and the entire off-season of dealing with Bengal fans lol

Not so sure “he’s got the Ravens by the balls”. Seems there would be pressure on both sides to get something done before the season starts. Without an extension Lamar would get $23 mil. next year, but what if he has another season like last? What if he were to incur a serious injury? Also wouldn’t like to see him having to play, trying to improve with that added pressure.

Given the extension wasn’t inked before now shows there are differences in perceived value. Best case here for both is they find common ground and get a deal done sooner rather than later.

I think as fans we are under selling the players perspective in hopes a deal is reached in a timely manner. This idea that they will find a middle crowd. I have no doubt EDCs first offer was 35-38 million. If I’m Jackson my baseline is 45 annually(two million more than Allen). If that’s not on the table Lamar has plenty of incentive to play out his fifth year option. He has had one poor year, and honestly the first part of it was great, it was the second half of an injury riddled season where he suffered. There’s no reason to believe he won’t return to form and ball out. His price will only go up next year and he knows it. I don’t buy the idea that this negotiation is taking so long because he lacks an agent. Seems like a smoke screen to cover down on the fact these two are far apart.

Certainly risk involved with both sides. A good example is Stanley. Ravens went all in expecting him to be a top LT in the NFL. We seen him on the field twice since signing his deal thanks to an unfortunate injury.

Always risk of injury. I think the difference here is Ronnie played consistently well game after game for 5 years and missed minimal time. He rolled the dice on the 5th year option, was a top LT and won the bet on merit, not on potential. Huge bummer he got hurt and hopefully he comes back strong.

I think Lamar played really well through out his time with the Ravens. On par with that of Stanley…. I’m just thinking Lamar wants it all on this contract. He knows his most dangerous assets are his athletic abilities and legs. I think he is realistic and understands those won’t last long enough for another large second contract. He’ll continue to get money down the road , but nothing close to this deal.
