Lamar Jackson

There’s no rush , just Lamar’s deadline and the media knows it can make a big stink of it. The only justification for extending him now would be clearing cap room this year and of course the sooner you sign an ascending player the cheaper he will be.

But yea I see no reason why we couldn’t get this done next off season or even the following one post tag
I think the only way the Ravens even sniff at a fully guaranteed contract is if we make a serious post season run and at the least make it to the AFCCG and compete there. And I also think they want to see some serious clutch performances in the most important situations prior to committing long term.

I get all of the hype and excitement, but we’ve won a total of one playoff game the last 4 years, that ain’t good. Not saying it’s all on Lamar, but he is the QB.

I think he’s been pretty clutch up to this point. I never expected Lamar to be on the same level as Peyton, Mahomes, or Brady types but It’s hard not to be pleased with what his has done so far. Really seems like he’s going to continue to be something special. It does make me laugh though when our fan base over hypes Lamar. “ If not Lamar than who?”…. Give me a break , lol, it’s one guy. They treat it as we were never relevant before and never will be again if Lamar isn’t signed long term. I think that’s just a sign of new Lamar era Ravens fans.

We were spoiled with Joe’s early playoff success, but I’m feeling pretty optimistic Lamar’s postseason success is coming soon.

Why all of a sudden is there a rush for the Ravens to sign him to a longterm deal?
If there's no agreement once his deadline has passed, we can still enter negotiations next offseason and tag him.
Why do I get the impression that some of you are willing to get him traded? Even if we got multiple 1sts, there's no guarantee we'd find an adequate replacement. AFC is loaded.

There's no rush. But he's not going to get cheaper either. I also appreciate your point about adequate replacement, but it's a team sport. I'm on record as not married to Lamar as our long-term QB. I think he's replaceable on THIS team with the FO and GM we have.

I don't know who would be available in the draft or FA, but I imagine just about any team could call if the word is we aren't going to sign him - whenever that might be. We would get a King's ransom to deal him - if the time comes. I'm dubious about what a team can do with 20-25% of cap tied up in one guy. We certainly wouldn't be able to sign top tier WR's, Oline, CB's, or Edge guys paying one player that kind of percent of the total cap. You'd have 35-40% going to two guys. It's not sustainable because all of the demands are going to go up after Watson's guaranteed deal.

Personally, I think they are farther away than the media knows. Or maybe they do know and this isn't just a lot of click bait speculation. But I don't think the team collapses without him.

Certainly pleased, but not record setting, cap killing contract pleased.

Playoff success is a legitimate arguement at this point. Lamar has one win and he didn’t play well in it. The defense carried him Vs the Titans shutting down Henry and forcing two turnovers. Another offensive dud followed in Buffalo

Yea I’m no cap guru , but I’m definitely concerned. If DeCosta can crush the draft the next few years than I’m not as worried about our ability to effectively go after free agents

I am pretty confident that those early successes where more attributed to our running game and defense

In his first 7 playoff games Flacco threw 4 TDS to 7 Ints

when have we ever signed top tier receivers? When have we ever signed top tier anything outside of ET that ONE year?

I think the contract ultimately will make sense for both sides. Lamar doesn't strike me as the type to want everything for himself knowing how it would leave the team/affect his teams chances of putting pieces around him

news cycle is slow, and Lamar is right next to Cowboys and Brady news.

Ravens didn't offer him any of the shit we are hearing.

not exactly news lol - if they offered that then he'd already be signed lol

but the news cycle for the next little while is gonna be so frustrating - at least cutdowns tomorrow might draw some attention
More posted it because it’s as inside of info as we’re ever gonna get lol

Not just about signing free agents, also need cap to keep/sign other valuable drafted talent to their first vet contracts.

I hope you’re right and they’re able to work a deal that makes sense to all.
