Lamar Jackson

Only $133m guaranteed at signing according to Mortensen:

Sources: Lamar Jackson rejected a Ravens' 6-yr contract offer with $133 million fully guaranteed at signing, which is more than Russell Wilson ($124 million) and Kyler Murray ($103.3 million) but well short of the $230 million fully guaranteed deal that Deshaun Watson got.

Meanwhile if Lamar plays out the 5th year option (23m), the tag (45.5) and the second tag (54.6) he makes $123.1m and his next contract protects his age 27-31 seasons against injury.

I can see why he turned it down.

With all of the details coming out now, I think the Ravens made a more than fair offer. Yet, I still think Lamar is in his right to turn it down. It’s his opportunity to set the market and he has some fail safes in place to continue that opportunity. He might get the fully guaranteed that he wants and he might not, but he holds the leverage right now. There’s some risk involved but the guy is going to make a ton of money at some point. Might as well wait and see, especially with $45M coming his way next year. Don’t remember who tweeted it, but someone pointed to Dak and the deal he got after injury. If Lamar gets hurt, that’s when he might “settle” for a still large offer. But for now, play it out.

So, what I said but two less guaranteed years
6 years / $291 M

Makes it $48.5 M average, let's say $200 M in guarantees although I think whatever the deal is, Lamar will collect every single penny, so it's beside the point, really.

It would only be fair if the Ravens show how much they appreciate Lamar by offering something like this.

Certainly worth at least this much for a proven MVP (well on a way to another, with injury ravaged team) and a great leader, considering what serial sex deviant and an asshole who doesn't study the film are getting.

Ravens fumbled this one, Lamar deserved more guaranteed money. He earned it.

Short of fully guaranteeing an amount greater than Watson, or whatever dumb guarantee a QB gets this year in FA, I don't see him going for it next year either. Like I said earlier in the summer, he has two things he wants: Highest yearly and biggest guarantee. If it were just one of those it would be a done deal. Good for him in holding out to get what he wants, I guess. Back to the drawing board next year. For now, let's get on with the football. ;)

Yeah it really comes down to a risk vs reward situation for Lamar. If his interest is to “set the market”, he’s going to have to stay healthy, have a big year, and the team has to play well behind him. If the above is true he would have gotten more base then Murray, Wilson, and Watson, and more guaranteed money then Murray and Wilson had he excepted the deal. To me that’s more then a fair Deal. The Ravens are basically ignoring the Watson deal as an outlier, as they should. Not sure what he’s thinking here.

If the terms of the Ravens offer are true IMO it’s pretty stupid of Lamar to have turned it down. Not sure how anyone could think he deserves a ton more guaranteed money than Russ or Kyler. Just dumb. Expecting a 6 year fully guaranteed deal is delusional, just like the Browns. lol.

No matter how this pans out it is a huge distraction for both the player and team. unfortunate.

Hire a god damn agent, this is getting frustrating. Now we got the bias ulterior motive NFLPA as the agent. Our best bet is the escrow requirement gets changed this year

well if this is true, I'm hoping we increase that offer in the offseason.

Kyler 103, Russ 124 at signing.

133 is more than fair, and of course without knowing all the details we don’t know the final. Guessing it is proportional.

lets remember, 133m at signing doesn't mean that is the only guaranteed money in the deal. I'd bet atleast his first 2 years are guaranteed along with roster bonus in the 2nd year. I'd like to know the total amount of guarantees in this contract, not just at signing.

The numbers Mortenson posted are “at signing“ guaranteed money. You have to look at the contract breakdown at the bottom to see total guaranteed.

Question now is who leaked it? Pretty crummy to leak it 3 hours before week 1 gametime.
I think this was Lamar’s side. Seems like a fair contract offer but no where near what Lamar wanted. Think he’s letting the world know the Ravens aren’t close

I think Lamar is making the absolute right call, honestly, to maximize the amount of money he gets. If he plays his cards right, he could have $300M guaranteed at 28 years old.

As it stands now, Lamar will make roughly $125M, if I'm remembering correctly, on the fifth year option, and two tags. That's $125M guaranteed BEFORE he's even 28, which means that he's still in his athletic prime for a quarterback. There's also a chance that Burrow and Herbert sign mega deals, fully guaranteed or not, that push the average price of the tag even further, meaning Lamar only stands to gain money by waiting. He could theoretically cash in $130M off the fifth year and two tags and then come back to the negotiating table with a way higher cap in three years and get $150M+ guaranteed at signing.

If he gets hurt? He'll just point to Huntley and Dak Prescott. "Look how well we did with Tyler Huntley. Look at Dak getting paid after a nasty ankle injury." He'll just reopen negotiations and likely sign for what was offered before.

Unless he has a catastrophic, career altering injury, he's very unlikely to lose money and only stands to gain a large amount of money.

I'm all for him doing what he's doing. The Ravens are making A LOT of money off of Lamar and Lamar is putting his body on the line every single week. He's going out there and leveraging the fact that he's one of the NFL's most dangerous players into the most money he can and I'm all here for it with how much owners profit off of these guys.

Absolutely.

I'm kinda disappointed it is this low in terms of guarantees. Either the Ravens are cash poor and can't put up that kind of money in escrow or are simply unwilling to. Either way, I'm disappointed it isn't at least 175M guaranteed, which would surely have helped seal the deal. I like that it was a 6 yr offer. I just think a 303M-6yrs-175M guaranteed, with a 50M signing bonus would've gotten the deal signed. Just a hunch of course.
